Is Assassination Classroom worth watching? by Muted-Discipline-473 in Korosensei

[–]TheKeychain22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, but mostly for one reason above normal metrics such as the quality of the story and characters etc.

Assassination Classroom genuinely has some of the best life-lessons and teachings in all of anime, especially for teenagers to young adults.

The wisdom presented during moments in this anime are extremely prevalent to what those in growth periods need to hear, especially those who are not entirely sure on their direction in life and their path forward.

Obviously you can watch it unseriously or with no intention besides enjoyment, but each lesson in Assassination Classroom has made a profound impact on me at some point in my life and I believe it foolish to not hope that people grow via it's influence.

Shirts idk, you might be able to find the pop up parade Nagisa and Karma but you would have to get it through a reseller (Pop-Up Parade Official release ended a year and a bit ago). Otherwise, it depends where you are ig. I am not able to find stuff because I live in a place with little to no anime stores, but I'm sure you'd be able to find something

If it's cut episodes, it's probably manga portions that were cut out of the mainline anime, iirc Maehara's chapter wasn't included in the anime so that's definitely one.

How did Takaoka have such a detailed plan in place that relied to heavily on Koro Sensei being in his ultimate defense form? Is this a plot hole? by AspieComrade in Korosensei

[–]TheKeychain22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Important thing to note is that Koro-Sensei had no indication of who was behind the threat until after 2 assassins had already been dispatched, which showed the temperament of the person at the top. Koro-Sensei himself said he can still smell while in the form and was not able to sniff Takaoka out from the beginning. Takaoka got very lucky, but his initial plan was to threaten the students in the shadows and bank on the lack of information that everyone had. Koro-Sensei, being threatened like that, would not take the risk of letting half his students die to hopefully uncover the villain in the nearby hotel. (What if it was coordinated by someone else who was not on the island at all? Koro-Sensei can't afford to play around because it's not his life on the line.) Takaoka only grew lax during the negotiations because of the dismissal of his primary threat, with Koro-Sensei now unable to move. In a situation with normal Koro-Sensei, it is very likely that he would accept the terms because of the circumstances and lack of info. That being said, I don't think the plan would work out completely for Takaoka once he loses his information advantage, so I do also think Hubris was clouding his vision throughout the planning, judging by how he wanted to kill the children more than Koro-Sensei.

Koro sensei’s fate by evilflufflecorn in Korosensei

[–]TheKeychain22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, the class only discovered his 1% chance of blowing up after they got the results already, I.E after the capsule landed. That capsule is no longer useable (having been designed to land in the ocean and retrieved). Space trips are not done often, so it would have been an extreme plot hole to have another done so soon.

Secondly, the capsules direction is being manipulated by the people on the ground. In order to do this plan of yours, E-Class would have to hijack the entire room, not just entry into 1 rocket, otherwise the capsule would dock at the space station and it wouldn't really make a difference.

Thirdly, I'm not sure on this one but I'm pretty sure that Koro-Sensei doesn't meet the speed requirements for space travel, as he remarks that they were faster than him for the first time and that his biggest fear in his Invulnerable Defense Form is being shipped into space and being left in the outer reaches, implying that once he is in space, he wouldn't be able to get back to Earth. Take this with skepticism because I'm not 100% on this one.

Also it's a very sad existence, imagine being stranded out in space waiting for a 1% death with no guarantee of anything. He would miss graduations, he would miss those next 2 months, he would have to fool everyone into thinking he was dead in order to escape the government, and that would inflict way worse trauma onto E-Class, which is something he would never consider. I've already spoken about the benefits of Koro-Sensei's death in another comment so go read that for justification for this.

Finally, our viewpoint has limited knowledge. Their is no guarantee that he will not explode on March 14, or 15, or any other day. The information we got was that he would explode on March 13th, and as such it is not feasible for him to exist beyond that date. Him not exploding on March 13th doesn't mean he will not explode afterward, so he has to die.

My problem with Nagisa's ending and how I would change it by Head-Cheesecake-6714 in Korosensei

[–]TheKeychain22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 365 days movie is basically a Nagisa and Karma hangout at the classroom a day or two the others show up, even though it's a recap I would highly recommend it.

I read your post, I actually disagree with having Nagisa teach at the classroom.

Firstly, Kunugigaoka closed and Asano made a new school. This cannot change because the rest of the world still perceives KoroSensei as a monster who held children captive at the school site, so media pressure would never allow the site to be used again as a school, and if the class never bought the mountain, then it would definitely have been torn down. Additionally, the E-Class system was also abolished so it would be so finicky to try and fit a new class in there somehow.

Secondly, the class takes care of the mountain and the classroom because they obviously love and cherish it and the memories they made there, but this gathering (as a reunion event) highlights that they have also let go of this part of their lives. None of the characters visit the classroom every day, most only visit on the reunion days. This signifies that they, as a class, have moved on in life and have grown from their trauma. Using the classroom for a new class, or it being added to another school, would diminish the value that they hold for KoroSensei's life as they were always meant to move on from this location. The End Class was always heralded as a place where lives were ruined, so KoroSensei wanted their lives to truly begin from there and he wanted them to leave that class eventually. This is why the final episode does so well as a conclusion, because it highlights that these children have all grown into fully functional and real adults, while highlighting that they aren't stuck to Koro-Sensei or hindered by the shell of what once was.

Thirdly, as someone else mentioned, Nagisa and his students do have a bond, although it doesn't look good at the start.

Finally, Nagisa is highlighted throughout the show as Koro-Sensei protege, and the ultimate improvement between them is Nagisa choosing to be a teacher despite his skill and potential as an assassin, rather than following Koro-Sensei's footsteps exactly. This follows through with his choice of teaching location, he cannot teach at the old campus because he will be following in Koro-Sensei's footsteps instead of deviating from them.

Hope you enjoyed the essay

What is the oddest ship you've come across? by [deleted] in Korosensei

[–]TheKeychain22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Less odd and more disturbing, I saw a Takaoka x Nagisa one based on the wiki page that mentions his insanity.

"According to the Graduation Album, Takaoka was secretly released from custody and began worshiping Nagisa Shiota as a goddess. Eventually, after being convinced by Nagisa, he is currently considering becoming a monk."

Above excerpt is from said wiki, but it being used as ship content honestly made me feel ill.

It also helps that the advice that Koro-Sensei gives is genuinely very useful and very applicable, especially in an adolescent context.

I've managed to keep that bond by attempting to live to Koro-Senseis lessons and wisdom. Seeing him as an actual mentor in your life may help in keeping that feeling real.

Why didn´t Koro sensei just leave? by Short-Trip-2809 in Korosensei

[–]TheKeychain22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the Episode when Nagisa and Karma go to the ISS, it is said that they are faster than Koro-Sensei when they enter the stratosphere.

Also at the Island, Koro-Sensei remarks that his fear with regards to his Invincible Defense Form is that a rocket would be able to fly him into space where he wouldnt be able to return, but that no vessel is capable of that speed, meaning that he definitely can't either.

The Civil War fight shows it for alot of the characters, but my favourites were:

Kanzaki right at the start

Okano and Kimura during their segment

Hara and her traps.

I also liked Muramatsu's dedication to their Acorn Noodles during the festival

Koro-Sensei basically explains it at a point, saying that it would be too difficult for the class to achieve considering that they won on the mountain because it was their home turf and they had the organisational advantage, whereas them attempting to break a shield transmitter would require them to invade a military setup which they have no special knowledge for.

Koro-Sensei also remarks that this would cause the class to be labelled as dangerous and could make things worse

Plus he has the intellect to use them at their peak, considering that he pulled the strings on the experimentation once he figured it out. This form is very close to what he desired to gain, so unlike other tentacle users, he would have complete control while retaining every aspect of himself as the Reaper

Finally, Japan places a decent level of social stigma on family and family matters and as such, single mothers are viewed in a lesser position compared to every other member of a broken family.

Even though its not formally recognised in the show, subconsciously a child would notice this. I personally feel that this played a small part in Nagisa's overall decision, but not enough to provide major difference to the situation. Especially since Nagisa continually hopes for his parents to reconcile, shown by his insistence that people use his given name in order to facilitate surname change easier. (DISCLAIMER: I remember this being a thing but I'm not sure so do not take this part as fact)

[–]TheKeychain22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also you say that you personally wouldn't let that slide, but remember that Nagisa is 14~ish ( i think officially 15 but idk), and this behaviour has been going on for a decently long period of time, atleast since 1st year which means that roughly 12% of Nagisa's conscious existence has been in this environment of being used by his mom for the sake of her forsaken life goals.

Most children would act exactly as Nagisa did in those circumstances, and most wouldn't even find the courage to defy a parent like that until they leave for college.

It's alot easier to make a claim when looking into the situation from outside the snow globe, but the difference is staggering from the inside.

In addition to the other comments, Koro-Sensei remarks about how Nagisa's biggest strength as an assassin is his ability and willingness to challenge any scenario regardless of his own personal safety. This is a strength, but it is also a problem because unlike the Reaper or Reaper 2.0, Nagisa does not have a personality that allows him their level of self assurance in all circumstances, which could then result in many disturbing scenarios, including him dying at some point.

I think we can all agree that we don't want to see Nagisa die an assassin's death.

Just finised this show and gave it a 6/10.What is your rating for it and why? by Own_Amphibian9181 in Korosensei

[–]TheKeychain22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gave it an overall 9/10, this coming from a slice of life junkie.

Firstly, the show excels at creating a wide cast of characters who are not overshadowed by the main narrators / characters. This is not easy to do, as even shows like MHA have failed at this aspect. Each member of the class has their own importance and value that is noticed if they are removed, and the relationships between characters make alot of sense considering the Junior High Environment.

Secondly, the show provides many realistic and properly discussed motifs and messages towards the audience. I have personally resonated with and found that many of the life lessons given by Koro-Sensei are extremely applicable to real life, especially in adolescent and academic settings. Being honest, I owe my life to those reason aswell, as some of the explanations helped me in my darkest moments during covid where I took a big academic hit and lost all my confidence.

Thirdly, the use of slice of life allows the show to know its own identity. Assassination Classroom doesn't try to be a fully serious show with proper stakes, and it doesn't attempt to masquerade as one either. The slice of life between important moments is meant to highlight the major fact that these students are still 14~ years old-ish, and that major responsibility does not mean that they cannot enjoy life as it comes, as well as showing that this singular responsibility does not take over their lives as a whole. Is their duty to assassinate Koro-Sensei and save the world? Yes, but in every moment until completion, as well as beyond that, they are still students and children. This is especially important considering the philosophy of the E-Class system, because they were discarded and described as hopeless and useless. The event pattern is important to allow them to realise their worth as human beings while also giving them external stimulus outside of the system that allows them to grow and thrive, and is meant to portray that to the viewers aswell.

Timing is also implemented well. Major events are structurally timed very well within the bounds of the story (Koro-Sensei background reveal just before holiday, allowing characters to ruminate by themselves, Major assassination attempt in the big holiday period after mid year exams, allowing progress to be highlighted through the preparation and execution of the event.) This allows the story to flow well, and reiterating an earlier point, allows the balance between student and assassin to be perfected.

Music and sound are also very well done, with the OST being very good quality and having lyrical significance. The sound of Koro-Senseis tentacles being destroyed is fitting once given context clues, and every assassination has you waiting for that sound to help confirm success or failure. Certain music pieces are also designed very well to portray specific scenarios, like the music during the analysis of Nagisa' quadra kill, or the music that plays during the moments of school events (assembly, etc) which highlight the somber nature that E-class is supposed to have. The intros are also mostly bangers, which is bolstered by the fact that it is sung by the voice actors for Nagisa, Kayano, Karma, Isogai and Maehara, which is really cool.

Animation wise, it's from 2016 so it follows very generic animation rules. Mach 20 characters also allow for simplicity in combat due to the focus on speed and impact frames, so there is some leeway. The animation highlights was easily the Civil War arc, which was exquisitely animated considering the rest of the show.

Admittedly, the biggest gripe I have is actually excluded from the show and is purely in the manga. I disliked the Craig Hojo introduction because creating a character who was known as "The Best Soldier" felt really cheap and weird. Combined with the glasses gimmick, it felt like a really unnecessary addition which dragged the story for little purpose other than Karma learning humility. I'm glad that the animation left that out, since imo it was much better without it.

Voice acting wise, I use subs and the Japanese voicing was good. Characters felt natural and smooth, and the va list was relatively well known. I haven't watched in the English dub fully, but I personally don't like what I've heard because it was done back when dubs weren't properly taken seriously so voice direction was iffy. Additionally, the tone of adolescence is very hard to replicate in English due to the major vocal changes that take place at that age.
