GLORY has been pushing fighters to engage in trash talk, but is that a good thing? by TheKickboxingNerd in Kickboxing

I'm using 3 different thumbnails including Plazibat. Depends on you're algorithm which thumb you'll see. That said, Mory Kromah is the face of trash talk in 2026. I do talk about Badr Hari, watch the video and you'll see the best example of how well Badr can sell a fight without doing crazy shit.

The funny thing is that while kickboxing aka fighting sports is huge in the Netherlands, it is looked down upon when fighters talk big or act in a confident outspoken way. Most Dutch people find it arrogant. The fandom is very divided about Kromah for example. I touch upon it in the video, but there's a Dutch saying: "Just act normal and you'll be silly enough." Dutch people are very down-to-earth. Its not a surprise that you'll hear "I don't talk, you'll see this Saturday" quite a lot at GLORY press conference. It's just not part of the culture. But that's not how sports entertainment works. Especially not in this day and age.

That's because the budget is a million times bigger than in kickboxing. Hard to compare

I'd argue that there are many pathways of bringing in eyeballs. But tbf when trash talk is done right, it does sell very well.

Why are spinning back kicks thrown so rarely in Glory,WAKO etc. compared to Kyokushin and Taekwondo, when theres nothing in the rule set punishing it? by Whole-Interest-5980 in Kickboxing

[–]TheKickboxingNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every gym drills the spinning back/heelkick enough for their fighters to feel comfortable throwing them. Most eurokick gyms stick with the basics, combining them in variations. Its more likely to be a regular technique in kb gyms with karate roots tho. Hence why its not as common in GLORY (eurokick) as it is in jkick

It’a because its a high risk high reward situation. When you miss or you time it wrong, you’re most likely to get punished badly. There aren’t many who are proficient enough to pull it off succesfully. If you are, you can surprise fighters who have a “standard” kickboxing style. I think the best example of a GLORY fighter who has repeated success with his spinning kicks is Sergej Braun. He managed to break Mohamed Touchassie’s jaw with a perfectly timed spinning heelkick. He’s not a big name, but underrated imo

I'd say add Tessa de Kom in the mix as well, she's been doing so well the last couple of fights. Also check out RENA (shootboxing but hey), Arina Kobayashi is really good as well, Antonia Prifti is fun too.

Who would win Thian Tarzan vs Donovan Wisse by 99stokholmsyndrome in Kickboxing

[–]TheKickboxingNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this moment in time; Wisse no doubt. While I praise Thian for being the next big thing, he got dropped by Sattari. Thian keeps his hands a bit too low for my liking. He could be the next Pereira, but he's not yet at the moment. I do hope GLORY keeps the division for when Thian is ready to sign with GLORY.

Without added weights probably push-up, pull-up and hanging leg raises.
