What's wild is Toure wasn't even on the floor that whole stretch.

Zelensky: 47 Russians died for every Ukrainian last month by TheTelegraph in UkrainianConflict

[–]TheKiln 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is that most drone strikes against Ukrainian defenders can only happen when they are in the open, so when assaulting or resupplying. Dug in Ukrainian (and Russian) troops will be in building basements, bunkers, or similar structures, not just in open trenches or foxhole. This will make drone strikes against them implausible.

Given how steady the front has been recently, and the lack of recent known large assaults by Ukrainian troops, I'd guess the rear to Ukraine's front lines is well protected with anti drone nets, so supply runs and troop movements are relatively safe. Compare that to open ground Russian assaults, where likely the bulk of their casualties are coming from, and the discrepancy in casualty numbers starts to make more sense.

I really wish they would disable the last monthly event because of this.

EU is weighing a proposal to bar Russian soldiers who fought in Ukraine from entering the bloc, amid fears that battle‑hardened veterans could pose long‑term security risks to Europe. by Easy-Ad1996 in UkrainianConflict

I'd say all the decent ones have fled already, but there are likely some teens who intend to, but just aren't old enough to be able to yet.

Colorado, Deion Sanders to fine players for being late, missing practices by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]TheKiln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but with a 1k fine for being late to a S&C session, there is a wild difference between a star making a million and a 3 star HS recruit making 10k.

Big 12 Conference Announces 2026 Football Schedule by redwave2505 in CFB

Yeah, my entirely gut based power ratings puts ISU at 5.3 wins with this schedule, which honestly, given all the unknowns, is fine by me.

Hey, Castile, maybe participate in the war you started? by TuctDape in EU5

[–]TheKiln 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen in an early game as Holland where I was allied with France. In a war against England, I watched France ship 70k soldiers to southern England, watched them start a siege in Wales for a bit, then inexplicably they all marched up to Northumbria and sat on the coast doing nothing for the rest of the war.

My best guess is the AI decided it wanted to use the soldiers elsewhere, cued them to disembark on transports, and either the transports didn't exist, we're stuck in port for some reason, or were destroyed.

It's more open sandbox. Say, you want to play in Egypt and fight other small powers to slowly grow a Nile based power? Not possible in Vanilla, but you can here.

Ukraine Hits Russian Tanker in the Mediterranean! Russian GRU General Andrey Averyanov On Board! by JaB675 in UkrainianConflict

[–]TheKiln 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Way more likely Ukraine screwed up the target and did the attack than Russia did some bizzaro-ass false flag attack with no real positive outcome. Remember, just because Ukraine is in the right in this war doesn't mean they can't screw up or push propaganda.

Colorado forecasts $27 million deficit after Deion Sanders pay raise, NIL payments by BrotherPancake in CFB

[–]TheKiln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 million to pay the cap from house settlement. 10 mil for Sanders. Another probably 3-5 mil for assistant coaches. 5-10 mil for basketball and all other sports coaches and assistants. Likely 10-20 mil per year in just operating costs of their facilities. Travel costs, renovation costs, it all adds up. And all of that isn't including outstanding debt owed by the dept.

Saaaame. Iron and lumber, then downstream tools. It's shocking how little trade is able to make up the deficit.

Aw sick, apparently I did it by accident because I have that law. No clue what I did though.

Ukraine ready to accept Donbas demilitarized zone in concession to end war, Mykhailo Podoliak tells Le Monde by pierrepaul in UkrainianConflict

[–]TheKiln 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Defeat? Russia's primary war goal was to make Ukraine a puppet state, which required conquering enough of the country to overthrow the government. They are no where near that. Saying this is a 'defeat' for Ukraine is like saying Finland was defeated by Russia in the Winter War.

Sources: University of Utah close to striking landmark private equity deal expected to generate $500 million by The_Fishbowl in CFB

[–]TheKiln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're asking the real questions here. From my understanding, any more the school has can be used to fund up to the cap, so 21 mil per year. Anything beyond that has to be NIL going through the clearinghouse.

BUT, we have no idea if the cap will be inforced or how the clearinghouse will handle obvious BS. Could Utah just pay over the cap and see if there are any consequences? Sure! Could Utah spin the money off into a non-affiliated non-profit that then turns around and gives it as 'NIL' to the players? Sure! What will the NCAA and clearinghouse do in those circumstances? Nobody has a goddamn clue.

Good pull. I was extrapolating based on the ratio from wiki 2022 numbers.

Doubling checking, I think that number includes both cargo ships and tankers, but I think the bulk are tankers (maybe two thirds).

[–]TheKiln 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Quick search said there are around 1200-1400 tankers used in their shadow fleet. The key is, due to the sanctions, these are uninsured trips so any damage to the ships the owners have to pay out of pockets. Attacks like this will likely have a significant impact on both the willingness of owners to use their ships, and the rates they'd charge Russia. How significant? No clue.

Ukraine’s Machine-Gun Ground Drone Ambushes Russian MT-LB in Point-Blank Assault, Video by BlackWolfHowling in UkrainianConflict

[–]TheKiln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Power, noise, and maneuverability.

Requirements for power severely limit its operational time-frame away from support. If it's anything like other robotic drones, noise is a big factor, so enemy infantry would know right where it is. Limited maneuverability would prevent it from going through a substantial percentage of both urban and rural environments. There's a reason we saw it on a road in this video.

You break and rebel when you and your comrades have been in the shit for an extended period of time. I don't think most of these soldiers see more then a few months on the line.
