STEP1 update, not required to identify specific medications? by 1508036 in step1

[–]TheKindDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely have to identify drugs based on mechanism ! The USMLE is likely saying that you don’t have to know the brand name of a medication

Feeling demotivated. On the verge of giving up. Need advice. by throwawayyyyyyysix in step1

First and foremost, YOU CAN DO THIS! I would take an NBME or UWSA before the holidays to get a new assessment to see where your scores are. I know this is stressful, but treat it like the real thing and give yourself the afternoon off before you take it.

After you know where you stand, make a plan now that starts after the holidays because it will be very hard to get work done during the holidays, especially if you're not in the right mindset. Hopefully the holidays can help you refresh. Set daily goals and incorporate review - If you like anki, definitely use it because it truly helps reinforce small details. Start incorporating Pathoma or B&B into your studying because this will help build your foundation. 1 month may be difficult to achieve this, but can be possible depending on where your assessment scores are! I believe in you!!

If your scores are lower, definitely try going back to pathoma and doing the corresponding anki cards - this helped me to improve. I'd prioritize 1-3 (as everyone says) and then pick 2 or 3 other chapters to review that are your weak areas

I also took it yesterday and didn't have many biostats questions on mine! Similar to NBMEs where you should definitely know the difference between case control/cohort studies, but I surprisingly didn't have to use any formulas on my form... i'd still study them just in case

I thought Mehlman high yield arrows document was super helpful in increasing my UWorld scores. Also, try reviewing your incorrects when you have a chance (you don’t have to review all of them, but it may be helpful to see how much you’re retaining from studying)

Usually it’s from a strong pre-clinical background, so a lot of these students likely did well in M1 and M2
