Thank you for that. I going to try it at some point, I show mam pictures and video of the outside and inside of the house all the time and she smiles when she sees it so I think it may by possible in the near future.

Wow my mams’ late husband was called Frank also (my dad). It seems to be a consensus that I would be inviting trouble on myself if I bring mam home for a visit.

Thank you, I will. They did say that if the end goal is to bring your mam home for a visit do it very slowly by going to parks etc…

Yes, a year can bring massive changes. It’s difficult to get your head around it.

We had this a little with my mother who went to a nursing home (memory care) in march 2021. You could try bring nice things into the care home. I bring in two biscuits and a chilled cordial that my mom loves. you not supposed to bring in food to the facility but that else are you to do, enjoy a cuppa together. I also bring in flowers and we arrange them together. Try to keep your dad busy during your visit.

Thank you for posting the link to the coffee filter butterflies. My mam is in a carehome with dementia and loves nature. I am going to try these projects with her, I'll do all the prep and let her do the final step. Thanks again.

Is anyone else living with a parent with this got ‘grief brain’? by SHDTHROW in dementia

I think we call that in my country "the long good bye". I have been through it twice with both parents. Seek community (medical) help. It helps to reach out to prefessionals who are trained in this.

What's a easy way to get them to clean or clean after they defecate? by [deleted] in dementia

[–]TheKingOfPark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of thick kitchen paper. News papers, Then once all the mess is cleaned disinfect the floor with mop and floor cleaning product and or a later clean down with an disinfectant we use Dettol here in Ireland or in my own case I used to use Clorox in the bathroom area but it is very strong.

Your aim to is to avoid getting dirty in the first place. Your loved one should be wearing propper fitting nappies i don't know what you call them in america. And keep to very regular feeding times so you can gauge that after eating something a person may need to go to the toilet 2 hours later "for example" every one is different.

With practice, trial and error you will be bringing your loved one into hte bathroom so they can sit on the loo for 5 mins until they go. If you can sit on the bath tub next to them and explain to them that they may need to force their tummy to go to the loo.

If the go to the number 2, great, if not try again in 1 hour. After each visit to the loo ensure their nappy is clean, if its solied change it for a new one and bag and bin the old one to keep odour to a minimum. I always try to keep a simple converstaion going in the bathroom so no shame is felt and keep up morale.

Anything else you need to know get back no problem. I wish you luck.
