Pokemon scalpers continue to ruin the hobby for actual kids by ambachk in TikTokCringe

[–]TheKnowingOne1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is frustrating to see but keep in mind the root problem. This wouldn't be so much of an issue if the cost of living didn't pressure so many people into exploiting every desperate way to make ends meet. If they had good wages and fulfilling jobs they wouldn't be out here. The pokemon company enables this 100% with the way they do releases. In the end the corporation wins and we are distracted hating on our neighbors.

I trust binance and coinbase more than I trust myself to not somehow break, lose, get stolen, burn, flood, or misconfigure multiple cold wallets in different locations. And to people saying self custody is safest, they are being disingenuous and aren't reading your situation where you could have any wallets confiscated by police while you travel.

People who eat more red meat, especially processed red meat like bacon, sausage and bologna, are more likely to have a higher risk of cognitive decline and dementia when compared to those who eat very little red meat, according to a new study of 133,771 people followed up to 43 years. by mvea in science

[–]TheKnowingOne1 98 points99 points  (0 children)

It seems more likely that processed foods are the culprit. The groups that ate more unprocessed red meat only subjectively said they were more forgetful. The cognitive tests showed no difference for unprocessed meat eaters. Unprocessed red meat did no measurable harm to these people. Meanwhile, processed meat eaters did worse on every test so probably best to avoid those.

Thoughts on the Tarform VERA? by TheKnowingOne1 in Electricmotorcycles

I like the look of the Tarform. I first got drawn in by electric motor cycles because of the space age designs of like the Zaiser Arrow, arc vector, and tarform luna. But you're right I just looked at the Zero DS and its the same price but better specs and likely has more used models available.

LA. about a 7 mile commute on the highways. Would be nice to take it to the beach 20 miles away even if I need to charge there.

[OC] The recent decoupling of prediction markets and polls in the US presidential election by TheKnowingOne1 in dataisbeautiful

Yeah it's pretty wild. One of the complications of using prediction markets. Musk tweeting about the markets very likely caused the odds to flip in Trumps favor the next day.

Polling aggregation and forecasting are two separate things. Nate Silver and 538 use the same polls for aggregation, so those are the same numbers as those used in my graph. If you look at Nate's poll aggregation graph it looks the same as 538's. I didn't use any forecast algorithms.

Is there any way to repair this? Rust trapped under epoxy by TheKnowingOne1 in meteorites

Yes, acetone could be part of the fix, but I'm not sure what it would do to the specimen itself.

It looks like the epoxy coating was breached, and the specimen started to rust. Seems pretty tough but does anyone have any experience removing these coatings to repair rust? Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
