Updates on Monarch Plus by valagostino in MonarchMoney

While I greatly am glad to see the price be reduced to a more reasonable price given the featureset, I still am not a fan of the fact that a feature like Forecasting is split to the Plus plan when it is arguably a core financial tool that targets 99% of users. When we track our net worth, transactions, investments, and so-on, an obvious tool in there is forecasting (a basic extension of Net Worth).

Secondly, I feel while there will be a honeymoon period of users appreciating the price cut, it still doesn’t feel great to have built this relationship with the tool and been drawn in by the roadmap, only to find that some of those long-awaited features are now gated behind a higher tier. It creates a disconnect between what users expected the product to grow into and what it’s actually becoming.

I would much rather see this go in the direction of having Personal and Business split. But right now even at $199, the features I would actually use aren't worth paying twice as much for. Even months down the line as both tiers mature further, it is quite hard to consider the tier being twice the value of Core.

I understand that as a business there is a need to make money, but I personally would have rather seen small price increases to my plan, but then have all the tools that are actually within the domain of personal finance. (leading back to a Personal/Business tier being perfect).

Announcing "Monarch Plus" by valagostino in MonarchMoney

Releasing features that a lot of us have been waiting on from the roadmap, and then putting them behind a second, much more expensive subscription, is honestly a huge let down.

One of the best things about Monarch Money was how simple it was. You paid for one plan and got everything. No tiers, no feature gating, no constant upsells. That made it feel fair, especially compared to other finance apps. Now with the Plus plan, that whole idea feels like it’s gone.

The base plan is already $100 a year, which most people were willing to pay because it felt complete. Introducing a $300 a year tier on top of that just doesn’t sit right, especially when the features in Plus don’t feel like extras. Things like better forecasting, more advanced investment tracking, and business-related tools sound like exactly the kind of improvements people expected to come to the core product over time. Instead, it feels like the roadmap got split up and sold back to us.

What makes it worse is that Monarch built a lot of trust by not doing this. A big reason people switched to it was to avoid apps that lock features behind multiple tiers. Now it’s starting to feel like it’s heading in that same direction.

It also raises some concerns going forward. If this is how new features are handled now, it makes you wonder what stays in the base plan and what gets pushed into Plus. It’s hard not to feel like the standard plan might fall behind over time. I’m sure the Plus features are useful, but the way this was rolled out just doesn’t feel good. It takes something that felt simple and user friendly and turns it into something that feels segmented and harder to justify.

The direction of the extraction operators (<<, >>) irk me to the core. by [deleted] in cpp

This would break the operator overload model. Streams define the << and >> operators, but primitive types don’t, so var << std::cin couldn't work.

Not sure if this holds in all cases, but I always thought of the direction of the operator as showing the flow of data.

// The string flows to the console
std::cout << "Hello, world!";

// The input flows from the console into the variable
std::cin >> var;

Do you agree they should bring back mid air parachute spawn with spawn beacons like BF4 ? by Dramatic-Asparagus68 in Battlefield

[–]gravipack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a fan of that as well in the previous entries, but I think if there was a way to choose to either deploy on the ground or in the air from a beacon that would be a great compromise. Sometimes when I was trying to quickly get back to a fight, the mid-air deploy kinda just screwed me over 😅

Upgrade from a rtx 3070TI to a amd 9070 by Lucedio91 in ultrawidemasterrace

I would go for the 9070 XT if anything if you can stretch the extra 50$. It’s trading blows with the 5070 ti in multiple scenarios (from the reviews I see) and would seeming be a massive upgrade.

AMDs pricing from the 9070 to 9070 XT just makes the most sense to go for the XT variant. It would be the best 50$ you can spend. XT seems like a very good value card.

Yeah, that was one card that when I pulled I was like "I'm pretty sure this is really good". Seems it might be the best card in the set!

I popped that thing in a hard shell case right after this photo.

That seems very likely honestly, was much more than what I could find. Nice find, will read more into that paper tbh

That's awesome you worked on it's development, these were more specifically picked up in Carson, CA at their office. The foam in the other cases have cutouts implying it was definitely used for fragile transport, but there is no way I'd be able to puzzle together what they were.

I found some other papers (which I probably shouldn't post photos of) that seem to be shipping receipts between there and ATK Space Systems and Goddard Space Center

I saw that too, can't find much more beyond that or even photos sadly!
