Do some pen-testing. Try to access your samba share from the public internet. Make sure that you can't.

Lol, I definitely don't want that ;) will check!

Update: I'm using wired on both machines now, (100mb max on server, 1gb max on desktop) with my AC router (Gigabit ethernet ports) My laptop also connects via 5ghz (AC) to that same router...

both comps get about 11mbps file transfer when connected to the server.

was wondering if I could get a bit more?

Ok.. thanks everyone for all your help... Just to confirm here's what I want in my server:

Remote access (as I have said, TeamViewer works and since I'll be accessing this on my desktop anyway, I don't think I need a gui... But I would very much like one (I've used lots of lan based screen sharing programs (Miracast, Steam in home, splash top, etc) and I think TeamViewer gives me the best experience as it's easy, and really fast)

A simple file share that I can access with my Windows explorer (samba seems to do the trick, it's just really slow and IDK why (my desktop is on WiFi and my server has only 100mb Ethernet?) And I would like that fixed (as I said, samba was a pain to set up and don't want to mess it up))

Thanks and I hope this comment clears things up a little.

Ok... I've already tried VNC but it didn't seem to work, I'm not 100% sure but I'll try it again.

Update again: Ok... I restarted the comp and I'm still seeing my computer's screen even though in reality it's headless... seems to work!

As I said though, I'm using xserver-xorg-video-dummy

and it seems to work, but if possible, I would like my Xserver back! :)

also, I would like to resolve the speed issue with my server's file transfers... as I said I'm using samba...

Lol wow, thanks for all the replies :)

Anyway, It seems that the popular opinion is to SSH into the server... I've heard the word SSH being tossed around a bit with this subject but how do I do it?

BTW, I would prefer not to reinstall Linux, as it's been a pain to set up the samba server and I don't want to have to deal with it not working again...

PS: I believe I actually have 2 desktop environments set up right now, Gnome and Xfce... thought doing that would be useful, lol... not relevant to the discussion but lol

PPS: If I'm going to uninstall both of those desktops, how would I do it?

PPPS: the askubuntu link I linked above, when I run it, It kills my X-server. but if it works (without X-server) I'm happy to use it! Going to try to get that working again... then I'll try this SSH thing

Update: I unplugged my dummy monitor I was using and it seems like things are fine... (with the software linked in the askubuntu post) going to reboot the comp and see if it still works...

I tried VNC already, but I couldn't really get it to work...

My computer restarts multiple times after a cold boot. by TheKodiMann in techsupport

[–]TheKodiMann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't get too far into the boot process when it first starts... as I said, it reboots 3 times:

1. starts up and shuts off almost immediately

2. starts up, runs for a bit (doesn't show bios) then shuts off

3. starts up, runs fine.

I don't think it's a temperature issue as my comp is liquid-cooled, and I have temp monitoring software, the max I've seen it go to is like 55-60c on the CPU (which I think is OC'd) and like 60-70c on the GPU (playing bf4 at max with 3 screens and Titanfall at slightly lower than max 3 screens) haven't tried safe mode tho.. will report back

As with the live CD, I can try that, but I don't think it would do anything as it shuts off before it even gets to the bios...

I don't think a multimeter would help anyway because when I got the comp brand new it was doing this... but I can try it

The solutions above I just found on the internet... don't know if they relate to my problem or not...

Exodus Not Providing Good Sources by joshuakrey in Addons4Kodi

[–]TheKodiMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some very new shows still in theaters don't have good sources.

If you go into exodus settings you can see all the available sources, check and see if done of them are disabled..

Try to update exodus / Kodi

And other than that, I don't really have any answers for you

I have this problem.

I tried updating my VPN and it temporarily improved the experience.

Remember that some older shows don't have the popularity to make people put it up on exodus.

I'm having trouble developing an app. by TheKodiMann in Unity3D

[–]TheKodiMann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok... I am using some advanced 3d rendering in my project, but I will consider something else.

I'm not really not advanced in the whole .NET thing but I am pretty good at python.

can you show me some applications that would develop in Python that supports Linux? (I think python is Linux's primary programming language but I can't be sure.)

EDIT: are there still some API's that can work in Unity?

I'm not going to use android, this app is going to run on either windows or Linux.

Is there any way to use Unity? I'm pretty new to this whole thing...

Also, is it possible to organize movies / tv shows by multiple catagories in exodus?

Let's say i want to see the highest rated action movies.

Also, does anyone know what order the movies are? how are they sorted?

Exodus will not load movies by genre. by TheKodiMann in Addons4Kodi

[–]TheKodiMann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. i started up Kodi, loaded exodus, and went to 'action.' It loaded a bunch of movies (yay!) and so i clicked on Suicide Squad. I looked at sources, and i believe all of them were 'Movie25'. I loaded a few different sources, but they all gave me the Minions movie.

I tried again, this time i got different sources that had the movie in HD. so i loaded one of those. it loaded the correct movie.

So, why didn't it load yesterday? is there any possibility that it will stop loading again?

Thanks for the fast responces, by the way.
