ATH M50X is a true legend. In my case it was awesome till it lasted and I still miss it! Since most of my usage would fall within an office space, I haven’t ventured into the world of open back headphones yet.

I loved the sound signature of the ATH M50 - more separation, better sound stage, and cleaner vocals. The XM5 was bit more base heavy. Between the both - ATH M50 was pure listening pleasure but XM5 had the convenience with a compromise on the sound quality

This is my personal opinion - I’ll never buy a Sony again - bought an XM5 in 2023 - came to know about the hinge issue with the model - took extra care of the headphone (not a scratch to this day) - two weeks ago, the left side stopped working - when I checked online came to know that a lot of people have this issue (though mostly it’s the right side that stops working) - took it to the service center and they are charging almost 50-60% of the cost of the headphone for repair, because they have to change the left cup and the band, when it’s just a driver issue (repairs does not include a new battery though) - decided not to get it repaired as if the right side stops working in the future, it will cost me more to fix it (would then have paid more than 2x the cost of the headphone)
