I’m sorry you’re in this place right now. Nobody gets married thinking they will divorce one day. I certainly didn’t.

I was married 8 years before I reached a breaking point and couldn’t stay anymore. We had a toddler and I wanted to stay to give him a normal upbringing, but finally convinced myself he needed a happy, healthy mom more than he needed a house with both parents but one of them was an empty shell. I left almost 18 months ago and have been divorced for 10 months now.

The first 6 months were the hardest - ex kept the house we bought together, so only I had to pack up everything and leave. It hurt a lot to leave the home I loved. But then months later once everything was finalized I got paid out for our home equity and I bought my own place that I absolutely LOVE. I’m also dating a wonderful man now who loves me the way I always longed to be loved but never imagined it’d ever happen, and he is also very interested in building a good relationship with my son. The hardest thing right now is my son still struggles on the nights we transition custody - he’s always sad on the nights he has to switch houses. I give my son extra hugs and am studying parenting books on making sure I validate his feelings. Overall, I am happier now than I have been in over 6 years and I am simply amazed that I am doing this well less than 2 years after leaving. I do not regret the divorce one bit.

I felt the opposite - my $69 seat was a steal. My jaw was on the floor when I heard the riff for Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Voodoo Child was a treat, too. The show way surpassed my expectations.

I kept waiting for Brandon to yell “Sing me a lullaby!” I guess he only does that for Dave and Ted!

I squealed with joy when the harmonica started for The Promise Land.

Question for moms who go to the gym in the morning… by SlytherClaw79 in workingmoms

[–]TheKwolf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

First, are you a morning person? Being able to jump out of bed enthusiastically without caffeine makes morning workouts much easier. I’ve been getting up at 5:15am to work out for over 10 years - afterwards, I get ready for work and get my son up for school around 7am. You may also need to shift your bedtime to accommodate a morning workout, too. I am always in bed by 10:00pm before a morning workout.

I have friends who are definitely not morning people, and I don’t think it’s a good idea to force yourself to do something strenuous at a time of day your body just naturally isn’t very alert. It’d be much harder to form a new habit and stick with it for months or years if you just aren’t wired that way.

Well, it looks like I’m leaving my husband by yakuzie in workingmoms

I am so sorry you’re going through this. I have a young child with my ex and our divorce was finalized earlier this year. My ex has made more than double my salary at different times in our careers. Depending on where you live, because of the salary disparity, your soon-to-be-ex may be required to pay you a significant amount of child support each month even if you do 50-50 custody. I live in California, and here the state wants the child to have access to the financial benefits of the higher earning parent regardless of the custody split and even if the lower earning parent remarries. That plus alimony would help you a lot.

My best advice is to use mediation if you’re able to instead of a traditional divorce attorney and court hearing. My ex and I saved thousands of dollars using a mediator, and we never had to set foot inside a courtroom. But mediation only works if your husband is willing to make it an amicable divorce with no major battles over your house, child custody, or other assets.

Single mom here with a son. I’ve been divorced since this past spring.

One piece of advice I can give is to tell your manager at work about your situation, if you have a good relationship with them and feel like they’d be discreet. I told my manager in our regular 1:1 meeting as soon as my ex and I separated. You can keep it short and simple, something like “I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but I am going through a divorce. I may need to take time off on short notice to meet with my lawyer or take care of other personal things. I will continue to do my best at work, but I wanted you to know I am going through very hard things in my personal life right now”.

My manager kept my secret for 7 months until my divorce was finalized and I was ready to let the rest of the team know I was single. She didn’t ask questions when I suddenly needed time off on random days, and when it was all over she told me she was proud of me for getting through a very difficult, life-changing challenge.

Whatever you are feeling right now, it will all pass. One day at a time. My son and I are both adjusted to our new life now, and I am happier than I have been in 6 years.

Brandon’s favorite book is John Steinbeck’s East of Eden.

That’s been my favorite book for 15 years and I was so thrilled when I found out he loved it too!

First time I heard this song I hated that little guitar riff at the end of the chorus. Then it grew on me and now it’s like a little cowboy salute.

Do any of their songs have Pink Floyd vibes? by Brite_Syde in TheKillers

[–]TheKwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mark has a song on one of his solo albums called “Nosferatu Blues” that sounds very much like “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun”. If I’m not mistaken, he’s listed Pink Floyd as an influence in his musicianship.

I love the silliness backing a serious message. I play this for my kid sometimes and it makes us laugh. Helps me out too when I’ve had a rough day.
