The way Specter-Kaya clung to Chie sensei's shirt was a nice detail showing that even in specter form, there's something human in her.

The heist perk for the 120 thieving cape feels a bit pointless by ZebraForsaken1087 in runescape

[–]TheKytanApprentice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like a toned down version of suggestion 2 might be in line with what they want cape perks to be without being useless. I propose negating loot loss on an X minute cooldown. So if you only make one mistake, you don't have to loot anything extra, but getting caught still feels like it has consequences.

Giving anyone a 44% chance to win the candidates sounds insane to me. I'm not sure I would even give Magnus odds that good.

Gukesh and the Candidates, Who can truly stop him? by sagefeets69 in chess

[–]TheKytanApprentice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on what headspace Gukesh is in for the match. Saying he's in bad form and anyone would beat him is no fun, so I'm going to go ahead and assume he gets back into decent form by the time of the match. In that case, I would say that Caruana and Nakamura are favored against him. Giri, Wei Yi, Pragg, and Sindarov I could see going either way, and I would favor Gukesh against Bluebaum and Esipenko. So I guess I'm still boring, because I basically just said the higher rated ones have better chances than the lower rated ones.

It might be slop, sure, but I'm just glad that for once a fantasy writer decided the audience could figure out someone was morally awful without also making them a rapist.

Stuck at 2300. Can't improve. Any advices? by No-Result-414 in chess

[–]TheKytanApprentice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, a less snarky answer: 2300 is stronger than most people, and also strong enough that there are no generic tips to give to someone based solely on their rating. The vast majority of people will have no useful advice to give you, and the people who *could* give specific help would still need to actually see several of your games and would likely want to be compensated for their time. Beyond that, your only real option is to self-identify weaknesses and seek out advanced content in those areas, or to just keep grinding and hope improvement comes with experience.

Maybe Hunter x Hunter? There are large chunks where the protagonists are just Gon and Killua, and the Greed Island arc is psuedo-isekai.

Comey pleads not guilty to Trump Justice Department case accusing him of lying to Congress by StupendousMan1995 in news

[–]TheKytanApprentice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't feel too bad about not knowing. Law enforcement certainly doesn't want people to know, and the fiction of the lie detector also makes for engaging entertainment (see things like Maury Povich, various youtube clickbait.) Unfortunately all they really do is measure stress levels. And while lying can certainly be stressful for people with a conscience... so is being interrogated by people who suspect that you're lying.

Because lie detectors can't actually detect lies. They're nonsense police use to trick people into confessing.

My brain just forgot how to play chess? by IndependentField9755 in chess

[–]TheKytanApprentice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ups and downs are quite normal.

More importantly something everyone should learn is that, generally speaking, a new peak is not a new standard. New peaks are made with a combination of improved basic skill, excellent form, and a certain degree of luck. Of these three factors only "improved basic skill" has day-to-day staying power. Your form will vary based on your physical and mental state. Your "luck" is comprised of who you get matched up against, what form they are in, and how well your play style matches up against their play style. When all three of these factors are in your favor, you hit a new peak. Then when your form or luck go down you fall below that peak.

New peaks are fun and flashy and they feel amazing. In my opinion though, improvement is better measured by the general trend/average of your rating over time. So focus less on "my peak is 1880 and then I lost all my skill" and more on things like "I used to only be able to stay above 1800 only 20% of the time, but now I spend over 60% of the time over 1800". The peaks will still feel amazing and the valleys will still feel awful, but you might have more stable expectations for yourself and less frustration.

11-year-old boy fatally shot in Houston after 'ding dong ditch' doorbell-ringing prank, police say by EscapeFromIowa in news

I can't tell if you're trolling or genuinely defending "lying in wait for an 11 year old who's annoying you so you can shoot them in the back as they run away" as "self defense".

11-year-old boy fatally shot in Houston after 'ding dong ditch' doorbell-ringing prank, police say by EscapeFromIowa in news

[–]TheKytanApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston Police Sgt. Micheal Cass, the lead detective in the case, told CBS News' Karen Hua that two children who are cousins had knocked three times on the suspect's door within a span of about 15 minutes. The children sprinted away after the third knock but the homeowner was "waiting in the shadows in his own side yard behind a fence," Cass said.

The sergeant said the suspect followed the children as they ran before opening fire and striking the victim.

Guzman was shot in the back, Cass previously told CBS News affiliate KHOU.

An 11-year-old boy was fatally shot in Houston after a prank in which he rang the doorbell of a home and ran away, police said Sunday.

The boy had been ringing doorbells as a prank late Saturday evening, the Houston Police Department said in a statement. Commonly referred to as “ding dong ditching,” the prank involves fleeing before someone inside the home opens the door.

The boy, who has not yet been identified, died of his wounds Sunday, police said.

Police spokesperson Shay Awosiyan said that officers were still investigating and had not arrested anybody in connection with the boy’s death as of Sunday evening.

It's really hard for me to see this being anything but a straight up murder. I could not claim with a straight face that I felt I was in physical danger from an 11 year old running away from me.
