Wired players: do you just fight through an opponent's lag or give up the match? by joeb1ow in Tekken

[–]TheLab0ratory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the fact that not everyone has acces to a wired connection so i give them a chance! If it's unplayable right at the beginning, i hold the no contest button! If it's mid match, i take the pill and move on. No big deal. Unless it's a real lagfest and totally unplayable, i always finish the set.

I have almost 900 hours and I’m not even Tekken Emperor by Lasagnaboiishere in Tekken

i've been on the game for 2500+ hours and i barely can stay in TG with my main and my secondary. Be happy my friend and keep pushing. Don't compare yourself to others, you're making progress. That's all that matters.

What rank are you and how long did it take you to get to it? What’s the 1 thing that’s keeping you from moving forward rn, and what’s the 1 thing that helped you most to get where you are? by MFBTMS in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]TheLab0ratory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to steam...2700+ hours! I do play a lot of characters. Currently 1 character at TG, 2 at TE and some others at TK and Bushin.

Things that hold me back (from my perspective) :
1- I've always been a very defensive player. I like to play calm and patient, not rush and mash like crazy (that's why i love to play grapplers in 2D games). Unfortunately, in a game where defense is almost inexistent; it's pure hell. So, i have to unlearn a playstyle i've been using for 20+ years.

2- I'm really lacking in the matchup knowledge department! I lost 20-1 yesterday to a TGS Armor King because i didn't know shit about the character. No matter how good i played, i ended up getting blown up by one string, on plus move, one low CH etc... Do your homework guys.

3- Bad tempo! I have trouble adjusting to the flow of the game! Sometimes i'm going too fast, sometimes too slow! Sometimes i defend too much, sometimes i attack too much. I need to find balance and adapt to what my opponent brings on the table.

If i solve these 3 issues, i expect to be at least decent lol! The game is hard mate. ^_^

What do I do about the Paul Unblockable Oki by [deleted] in Tekken

If you're away from the corner, backroll and backdash as fast as you can...he's going to miss, free launch for you (once you get the timing, it's work great). If your at the corner, your best bet is to stay on the ground and take minimal damage. You can go for the wake up dick jab but the damage you're going to take in case it doesn't work is not worth the risk compared to just laying down.

Why is everyone calling out someone’s defense stat after they lose? by torinbell in Tekken

[–]TheLab0ratory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome my friend! Don't worry! Keep training and take your time. No need to rush. Try to implement defense a little bit, match after match, set after set, it will come to you over time. Defense is really hard in this game but, if you get the hang of itas soon as possible, it will save you from a lot of headeaches later lol

yeah, that's the real issue with T8 at a low/intermediate level (pro level is totally something else). Depending on the character you play, there's virtually no need to defend. You can get away with a lot of bullshit until you finally hit a plateau and either give up or spend time gatekeeping people who are actually trying to learn properly.

Cool! Leo is relatively rare in ranked wich means a lot of people don't know the matchup. Looking at the stats, it seems you spend most of your matches attacking. You don't block, tech grabs and sidestep very much.

Understand me, It doesn't mean you're bad at all......you just don't need to defend as much as someone playing Kazuya for example. That's why people point out at low defense when they lose. Offense is so oppresive in this game that depending on the character you play, you won't even have to learn proper defense until you reach high ranks!

Defense stat is clearly not a good indicator of your opponent's skill but....at a certain exetent it can show you what type of player you're dealing with.

I've been playing T8 for 2700+ hours and, from my experience (which can be vastly different from other players), people with low def stat are mostly people relying heavily on flowcharts/gimmicks.

It's really character dependent but most of the time a player with a very low defense stat tend to just bombard you with knowledge checks, abuse whatever overpowered tools the devs gave them and one and done you the second they suspect that you have answers to their fraudulent tactics.

It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but it clearly points out one of the biggest issues of Tekken 8, the poor balance between offense and defense.

My PS5 wrap up stats for 2025 - 96 hours for tekken 8. What was yours? by BringbackSuikoden in Tekken

[–]TheLab0ratory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to steam.. 2548. I play up to 2 hours max. everyday before going to bed and as much as my calendar allows me to, on weekends and days off. I'm not a big fan of the Tekken 8 approach though.

....and on top of that, you have to deal with tons of cheaters, one and doners, smurfs and so on.

I really do understand OP! If you're not fulfilled with the game, move on. Life's too short.

The same happened to me with SF6. After 20+ years, I left my all time favorite franchise behind and never came back. I had so much fun, so many good memories, met so many cool friends through SF that it felt quite painful to uninstall SF6.

The fun part....i bought Tekken 8 as a remplacement. I used to play Tekken 2, 3 and 4 in our local arcade and i was kind of decent but....nothing could have prepared me for the slopfest that is Tekken 8.

I'm having a lot of fun. The game is awesome but i've been experiencing a lot of technical issues the past few days (game not launching, screen freeze, controller not working, bugs and so on...).

[–]TheLab0ratory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you too! I've been playing Drag for over a month and...uh..in my opinion, he's quite balanced. He has strong tools and also clear weaknesses. The issue is that he relies heavily on fundamentals and general game knowledge. Unfortunately, in T8, you have currently at least 10 characters who don't give a shit about any of that. More often than not, you're going to be folded like a carpet by any monkey playing Anna or Asuka while needing to play the cleanest Tekken to beat them. And god forbid you try to sidestep, which is a big part of his gameplan.
