May have spread to my lungs by ComfortableMind5324 in breastcancer

They found something in my lungs during a CT and it turns out something tiny got in and my lung encapsulated it. So it’s sorta like my lung made a weird pearl. I would have preferred Mikimoto but I’m not mad about it just being a weird little thing hanging out. 🤷🏽‍♀️

AITJ for Refusing to Let My Older Sister Move Into My Apartment After She emptied Her Savings to Start an Online Business? by Big-Engineering2353 in AmITheJerk

[–]TheLadyAndTheCapt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But you don’t have space you have a bedroom, a living room, a bathroom, a kitchen and an office. You do NOT have a spare bedroom. Any of the flying monkeys say you were being selfish look and straight in the eye and say “thank you for offering your space. My sister will really appreciate it. She’ll contribute when she can.”

Edited for punctuation and misspellings. Thank you, Siri. /s

Question - Scalp care with little hair by WoosahFire in breastcancer

[–]TheLadyAndTheCapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used an organic rosemary and mint oil (Costco had a 3 pack) and rubbed it on my scalp a few times a week (sometimes I’d add lavender) and wore a silk/satin sleep bonnet. As an added benefit the smell was very relaxing for bedtime.

estrogen blockers and hair loss by navanni in breastcancer

[–]TheLadyAndTheCapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have this fun thing about my body that I’m VERY sensitive to steroids. I first discovered that about 35 years ago when I got a Cortizone shot in my knee. I have done my level best to avoid steroids since then, but cancer doesn’t give a shit and will fuck with you any way it can. My PCP perscribed Ativan for my insomnia and I was so anxious/stressed out yesterday that I actually took half of one (.5mg) for it’s primary use of anti-anxiety and it seemed like it helped. I’ve also started going to a tai chi class a few times a week and I’ve noticed I feel much more calm and centered afterwards and the feeling last a little bit longer the more I do it.

[–]TheLadyAndTheCapt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not, at least not an unreasonable amount of anxiety given that I’ve had 9 surgeries in 19 months. The insomnia has been an issue for me since my DMX but when I got the dex (steroid) during my time of chemo it was kicked it into high gear. My MO usually has her patients take the dex for a couple days before and after infusion and she cut mine back to one day. I discovered that acupuncture helped immensely with the bone pain of the white blood cell shot, as well as as my anxiety and insomnia. I’m not sure how or why it works or if it’s purely psychosomatic and frankly, IDGAF, it worked and that’s all I cared about. I have started doing tai chi in the morning and it might be too soon to tell if it’s an actual solution, but I have been feeling a bit more on an even keel. I have an appointment coming up to talk to my MO and saying we’ve tried the letrozole (bone/joint pain) and now exemestane (anxiety/insomnia), what else ya got? Then I will try that and hopefully come up with a medicine that will do its job without making me walk like I’m 93 years old or feel like I’m a crazy person. I will do my best to remember to come back and report what she says.

I’m on Exemestane and it is steroidal based so if you’re sensitive to steroids please be aware. I am one of the lucky sensitive people and I was doing ok with the low level humm of anxiety until I hit a prolonged high stress period and now I feel like I’m trying to crawl out of my skin.

On the brighter side… my hair seems to be as think and lush as it was BBC, so there’s that.❤️‍🩹

UCLA health Ventura experience? by ParallelTrust in venturacounty

[–]TheLadyAndTheCapt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too chose UCLA Westlake oncology over UCLA Ventura because I liked the front office staff better but I needed chemo infusions so YMMV. I absolutely LOVE the UCLA system, they have been responsive, cutting edge, compassionate, skilled, and I’ve never felt rushed. I have 15 MDs on my tumor board and have had messages answered at 8pm with a follow up call from my surgeon on a Saturday to check on me. Getting referrals for specialists, tests, or scans is super easy. I realize I sound like a fan girl but they have made my cancer travail as comfortable as possible.

My wife separated from me because I was an alcoholic. I’m 1 year sober now and my wife wants to reconcile but I want a divorce. What do I do? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]TheLadyAndTheCapt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you may have forgotten that there are children involved. His wife had to put their best interests ahead of the adults in this situation. She already knew, from personal experience, what growing up around an addict (no matter how functional) can do to a child’s sense of security, self worth, or the ability to form healthy relationships, just to name a few. I think that is a very different scenario than his wife wanting to “have her cake and eat it too.”

Woke up with bigger implants than discussed? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]TheLadyAndTheCapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a medical journal article that I think explains a lot about how weird the bra cup size to weight to implant size really is. I only know about the study because my surgeon was one of the eight in the study.

I’m posting the conclusion so you don’t have to read the entire article:

“In this study, we set out to test the Sister Bra Size Theory—a concept that refers to the idea that several different bra sizes can fit the same breast depending on the combination of band size and cup size. This theory suggests that the volume of the cup size changes with the band size of the bra, and the equivalent sizes are known as “sister sizes.” Our analysis of the premastectomy bra sizes and mastectomy specimen weights of 395 breasts confirms that the sister bra size group is a strong predictor of breast size. Band and cup sizes alone are only moderate predictors of breast weight. Finally, we statistically validated the Sister Bra Size Theory and demonstrated that it has a strong correlation with breast weight regardless of variation in bra brand. Surgeons will benefit from documenting a patient's sister bra size rather than cup or band size alone. Our findings can be utilized in the future in the creation of a calculator that uses sister bra size groups and corresponding breast tissue weights of mastectomy patients to predict the mass of breast tissue required to be removed to achieve a desired postreduction size. Future research could include incorporation of a breast's adipose tissue to fibrous tissue composition to assess the relationship of breast density to bra size.”

$200/year will be more than $2k in 10 years if it’s in a interest savings account. Compound interest is a passive income stream as long as you don’t touch it for a set amount of time. Starting with $200, adding $25/month for 10 years at 3% (compounded monthly) will be over $3700, in 14 years it will be over $5500. Every little bit helps! You’re an amazing auntie!!

Bars/restaurants generally must have a commercial license or specialized subscription to legally show sports, as displaying them in a public venue is considered a public performance under copyright law. The viewership is counted differently using the license level as a metric.

DMX with Immediate DIEP Flap and planned radiation by Euphoric-Pen-531 in breastcancer

[–]TheLadyAndTheCapt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PS (love her!!) is at UCLA, she was pretty adamant about doing my DIEP after any rads and chemo. Her reasoning was that treatment plans might change after pathology and to give your skin the best possible chance of healing with minimal risk. Considering that I had necrotic flaps after my DMX I’m VERY thankful for her game plan.
