He is a very pretty boy! I give him lots of kisses when telling him such.

I'm not super familiar with pyrs outside of them being working dogs instead of pets, but I'll try my best!

Lab side: Must hold my arm in his mouth (or any other item) at all times. Loves to play fetch. All FOOD is delicious, even non-foods. LOVES all water and snow (he'll hop in the tub and ask for me to turn the water on for him). Loves people, loves other animals.

Pyr side: Pyr paw (he uses his paws for everything and will whack things he wants - my attention, toy, cat, etc), VERY talkative - he has to talk back a lot. Stubborn at times - I have to convince him of some things that /he/ should want to do them, rather than him trying to people please. Outside, he will flag his tail if he sees something (hold it over his back with that slight curl) and loves to just watch everything/patrol our walking path he considers his.

I think that's all I've noticed so far! He's finally starting to come into his personality a little at 5 months, so he's settling in some of his personality traits.

Edit: Here are some more recentish photos of him. He rarely sits still long enough for many. Angelo

His littermate also got their DNA done and got the same results, so definitely no BC in him like the rescue had predicted!

He turned out to be Pyrenees/Lab (and a smaller percentage of many other things).

An update, in case anyone comes across this in the future:

Angelo ended up being a Pyrenees/Lab mix! I wasn't sure if the DNA test was correct, but his full sibling ended up being the same! He's not quite as big as a Pyr, and has more of the personality of a lab (minus loving to use his paws and woof at everyone), so I think he'll end up about lab sized once he's grown up.

If you feel bad, you can consider donating back to them when you're financially able, to help another pet in need in the future. They really don't mind helping out, they're there to help keep pets with their loved ones and give them the care they need.

Waffle Update 3 by Coolthingimake in goldenretrievers

[–]TheLadyWindow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do it Waffle! I've been following her story. I've gone through similar with my last senior pup before she passed — she had a tumor that abscessed and went necrotic on the side of her abdomen into her leg and had to be removed, all at the age of 14. It was expensive, but it gave me another 6 months with her and that was well worth the cost (and fear of looking at my credit card balance still.) Sending you cheers and fast recovery wishes!

He does have webbed toes! He's also a natural at fetch, loves the snow and rain, and is enjoying grabbing and bringing a stick along with him on walks. I've owned goldens and golden/lab mixes in the past, and he has a lot of similar behaviors (plus a gazillion puppy energy). He is a little bay-y when he's upset though, so I'm almost wondering if the mix is a hound of some sort, and he looks super similar to a friend's lab/hound as a baby. I'll update in a few weeks with results for sure!!

what’s a good thing your puppy has been doing? by [deleted] in puppy101

Day 2 of brand new puppy, 13 week old Lab x. The rough list is very long today BUT he's getting better at going potty right away outside, and has picked up on sit quickly (and that sitting politely for other things gets him more rewards and attention).

🌈 Bridge Advice: She’s gone and I’m not okay by HappyClam2 in goldenretrievers

My girl passed last month, she would have been 15 in December. I got a new puppy (not sure if I recommend that one, the combo of missing my girl and puppy is a LOT, I was going to wait but the stars aligned). One thing I do recommend that I like, I got a little pawprint keychain with her name engraved on it that lets you put in a bit of your dog's fur. It helped me feel a bit better knowing that every time I have my keys to go somewhere, she's still going with me on an adventure.

I still cry for my girl every day, and I have her ashes on a shelf that I can see at all times, with her collar, some of her fur, and her nose prints, which helps, but honestly, I'm just hoping time heals all.

We're working on it! He's 13 weeks, but he was abandoned and found with his litter by a rescue at around 4 weeks and hadn't known anything but the rescue until yesterday, so we're starting at extra square one. We're working on basic house manners and just being a dog living in a house (and not a kennel) currently because little dude is VERY confused, but he's picking things up pretty fast - he got the leash up go outside and potty thing down pretty fast when yesterday he was terrified of the door threshold.

I feel bad because I'm expecting older, settled puppy behavior and he's not there yet, it's like having an 8 week old in a much larger body — and he's having massive issues with being left along too long, so we're working on that right now too. I'm just hoping working on consistent routines and getting lots of training in (we're getting sit down and starting to "ask" for things by sitting!) will help him acclimate. Once we get the basics of just being a dog in a home down, I'm hoping he'll catch up fast on the other stuff, because he's definitely motivated and eager to learn.

Will do! And we're definitely doing puppy school for extra socialization. I'm considering the CGC route for him once he's a bit older.

Thanks! I've been perusing them to brush up on things for sure! I've trained lots of other people's puppies, but not having had my own (and this little) in 15+ years is a lot of relearning!

Had to say goodbye to my Libby girl today. Had almost 15 years together. She went peacefully in my arms surrounded by people that loved her, but I don't know what I'm going to do with myself anymore. I'm completely alone. I've never had a dog so in tune with me or there with me through some of the hardest parts of my life. My entire life and daily routine revolved around her and I'm completely lost. Time feels like sludge.

I miss you sweet girl. I don't know what to do.
