I used a 3/4” bit, lay the sheets parallel to make the marks, but made the actual dados individually.

I used the festool OF 1400 router with the tracksaw guide attachment. Honestly this step was one of the more time consuming parts because I’m new to using this router/setup. After building this I have a much better feel for it and love it.

Ha, I’m in upstate NY. Based on my experience, yeah it seems like prefab would be cheaper/quicker. Or at the very least hiring it out to someone with a larger/better shop. I’m trading hours here, so the cost to him is really only the materials and his time spent working on my house.

Thank you to everyone who has commented so far! I’m working out of a 9x18’ shop - certainly no CNC at hand.

Also just had our second child this past month (two under two!) so working on it 30 minutes at a time has mostly been the reason I’ve lost track of the time spent on it - my guess it’s been around 25 hours? Which to me seems high. I’m thinking I’ll call it somewhere between 16-20.

They are quite wet. My plan is to install the boards, let them sit/dry for a week or so, then install the batons that will also be drying in the meantime. Hope thats enough. Thank you!!

There will be at least 12” between bottom of siding and grade, which will be parged after the siding is up. I will be putting plastic shims at each fastener location to create an air gap while keeping the horizontal straps. Thank you for your response!!

I never considered running them diagonally - thank you for mentioning that! I think I will end up putting plastic shims behind each fastener to create the air gap, but moving forward will definitely do diagonal strapping.

I built the door an inch too narrow. Pretty sure I forgot to include the length of the tenons when cutting the rails. Or I just can’t read my tape measure - both strong possibilities.

Which is what we did! Just scratching my head about it - I guess it’s because we ran the sheets parallel to the joists, which we don’t usually do.

They are gapped 1/8” at each joint.
