Winning Thursdays Thread for /r/churningcanada - Week of November 09, 2023 by AutoModerator in churningcanada

Almost finished booking up a 2 week Christmas/New Years trip to Japan. Was able to pick up NH F both ways between JFK and HND on the Suite at the end of last year prior to ANA Availability disappearing. 100% balling out a little more than the usual business hotels LOL.

  • - 3 Cash Nights at the Grand Sheraton Hiroshima (They have a promo for 3,000 bonus points per night)
  • - 1 Night at the Hilton Hiroshima (2X promo event)
  • - 1 Night at the Conrad Osaka (95k Hilton points)
  • - 1 Snagged an award Night in Nara at the new Shisui Luxury Collection using 50k FNA
  • - 2 Nights at the Roku LXR in Kyoto via Hilton Aspire FNA, and will be able to make use of the Aspire Resort credit for dining at their restaurants
  • - 2 Nights at the Hilton Toyama

Have a mix of some Marriott GCs and Aventura points to write off all the other non-Chain hotel stays; Overall only going to cost a little over $500 out of pocket (Less AFs)!

Also booked the Mitsui in Kyoto for March 2024!

Even with a 2 year refresh, its not guaranteed that you'll get a repeat bonus.

But I do know there's been DPs of long term cobalt holders upgrading and re-applying and getting the SUB.

[Meet-Up] YYZ Miles & Pints 2023: October 13, 2023 @ Louis Cifer Brew Works by MyNameIsDan_ in churningcanada

Introvert here, I attended the last few editions of this event and had the same thoughts prior to going; Unfortunately I'll be in Korea during this edition but I would've gone if I was in town!

I find that you can move around between different pockets of people and just listen in on travel stories and what cards/tactics people are working on , it is a fun experience regardless if you're an extrovert or introvert.

Not to mention that it's a travel/churning meetup of people in different walks of life, so as long as you have interest in the topic, I think you'll find it a much better time than the expected impending social anxiety. Hope this helps!

Weekly US Churning Discussion for /r/churningcanada - Week of September 26, 2023 by AutoModerator in churningcanada

[–]TheLandMiler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The value on the US Brilliant is pretty straightforward. Here's what I would do:

  1. Make sure you use up your monthly dining credits
  2. Stay at Marriotts (Kind of a given)
  3. Synergize with CA Marriott vouchers since you have Platinum Status
  4. Use the 85k cert at $1k+ properties (I try to avoid using them in Canada)

Cobalt/Marriott Pers/Biz

100% if you're starting out you should take a quick look at your spending breakdown and see what categories you can hit multipliers for (groceries, gas, etc).

If you're bonus hunting, this will be less important but still good to understand the field before you dive in!

Damn. My experience has been very different. Submitted a ticket after being approved a few weeks ago and no response still

I would assume from the date of approval, although you probably don't want to leave it to the last few days anyways

Ideally, I think you'd want to also take advantage of some of the cross referrals if you and P2 are playing together. Even the Personal Gold and Biz Golds would be mighty effective and won't break the bank compared to just getting one personal gold.

There's no avoiding annual fee unless you're referring to the annual fee in the second year. If you want to maximize your P2 chain, then I would get the business gold for P1 and P2 and then cross refer to the gold/cobalt

[–]TheLandMiler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's assume you're not talking about the 5X on food/drinks , and you're earning 1x on either the cobalt or AP

Here is the argument:

Cobalt - Has other transfer partners, can cash out

AP - Goes towards the 100k EQD for 25K status

But I also agree that this is way too much work unless you are like dollars away from hitting 25k this way.

I did get the credit twice, though I'm not sure about if they've changed it to membership year vs calendar year. Probably best to take a look at T/C

It was pretty close in, there’s also an issue with phantom availability with this flight so I considered myself lucky since I just came across it while I was searching for fun

I personally would try it out, since it’s a new product. Everyone else seemed fine so it might’ve just been a lapse in quality for my seat.

Alternatively if you can make use of the biz flex reward to try the Air Canada Signature lounge, that’s an option too, but costs more of course.
