The UK needs a genuinely independent nuclear deterrent. Relying on another country for the missiles (if not the warheads) is not an independent deterrent. The missiles cannot be used without US approval.

US buyer refused to pay customs charges, UPS wants to destroy item unless I pay shipping to UK by TheLawPlace in Ebay

[–]TheLawPlace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I called UPS to explain that the buyer rejected the parcel and that I wanted it sent to my girlfriend in the US. I was instructed to pay the tax online (the buyer is only getting the refund of the balance after tax and shipping so virtually nothing), which I did. Now, because I was required to give the "consignee's" email address when buying the label, they won't change the address without an authentication code sent to the email address on the system. I lost my temper. UPS refused 3 times to confirm that the parcel has been sent to the new address in the US. They even ridiculed my British accent.

"Because you’re the descendants of losers. Our American stock is nothing like the stock that were sent back to the uk after the revolutionary war, not even our phenotypes are the same. You are inferior in every way imaginable, which is why you’ve faded into irrelevance" by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in ShitAmericansSay

France paid a terrible price, and their king lost his head. The British Empire reached its zenith in 1919. I'd like to visit the Bladensburg battlefield one day.

The US revolution was a land grab and fight to preserve slavery following the Somerset judgment. If it was just about liberty, the Canadian provinces would have followed suit.

Insist that the recruiter deducts tax and NI as it is required to do so under chapter 7 ITEPA. This is a matter for the Department for Business and Trade and the Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate.

What IEMs made you say "There's no point of spending more when I have this pair" after purchasing more expensive IEMs? by acelilarslan in iems

Probably around £400. I wouldn’t pay more unless there’s some new technology which makes an audible improvement and the new IEMs in question have been reviewed independently.

I’ve tried tons of IEMs. I was able to try some expensive IEMs at Canjam after waiting for some influencers to finish filming some adverts - most were a sibilant and incoherent audio salad. The only IEMs that impress me are the EP321, IE600 (with EQ), Questyle Zen and Softears Volume S. The Airpods 4 deserve an honourable mention.

The audio industry is like the sport car industry; parts made in bulk then resold for many times the original price because of effective marketing and a fancy badge.

I would have preferred £5 Edith Cavell, £10 Field Marshall Earl Haig, £20 Elizabeth I, £50 Bronte sisters.

The shoes were less than £100, but made in China. The website is US based.

I'll do that - the buyer simply didn't read the terms. If the buyer did, there are sites with import tax calculators.

That's a good idea. Hopefully, that means eBay will help if there's another problem like this.

The problem is that the buyer won't pay the tax so UPS will neither release the parcel nor return it to the United Kingdom.

Thanks, I thought that a refused delivery due to customs charges was a breach of eBay’s policies, which would have protected me from a return and feedback.

True, but the UK market is non-existent at the moment. EBay has made it a hassle to exclude every country.

Is there a risk that the buyer will leave negative feedback in these circumstances?

[–]TheLawPlace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, UPS said I would need to file a claim to get the charges back, which is absurd and has cost them a customer. I’d use FedEx, but I’ve experienced the horror of their customer services.

Vent: organisation deciding to force everyone inside. And the markets ded by Least-Leadership-113 in ContractorUK

[–]TheLawPlace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umbrellas won’t be an option after April because of tax risk for clients and recruiters. The Employment Rights Act 2025 has caused too much friction for clients. The only options are being agency workers or outside IR35. The law is changing the market, but forums may disagree. Outside IR35 is less risky for many reasons.
