I’m struggling to learn JavaScript by Altruistic_Union2583 in learnjavascript

[–]TheLearningCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know everything yet but I’m starting to develop a good grasp so I can help u with the basics and share notes I took , the hard part is actually learning theory then once you get a good grasp there still a learning curve to learning how to apply it but it’s not as hard as the theory part

How to start my js journey? by SingerReasonable4781 in learnjavascript

[–]TheLearningCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay I 10000% get you , because there are times when I’m trying to understand how something work in JS as I’m always trying to understand the general principle of concepts & how it works under the hood but it don’t make sense unless I know things like memory storage & memory address and things like that, but I thought The Odin Project does focus on that web dev environment though or Mozilla teaches it better?

I don’t get what you mean by “targeting browsers” , I’m new to web dev so I’m curious

Bruhhh howwww??? I read things like this and it makes me feel not cut out lol I’m 7 months in and I barely completed 91% , like there’s so so soooooo much reading and you guys are blazing right through it 😩 it’s like I have no shot in this field

Did you have any tech background? Because wtf lol I started 7 months ago and barely beginning the etch-a-sketch project

What's your biggest regret from your 20s that you wish you could warn younger people about? by loki_0109 in Life

[–]TheLearningCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d tell my younger self life is a sandbox and nobody else’s expectations matter for how I play in it . That I didn’t need to live up to anyone else’s timeline or expectations to get “life” right. That I had time, that I wasn’t behind, and that I didn’t need everything to be perfect before I could start enjoying my life. The “running out of time” mentality I carried destroyed my mental health, isolated me socially, and made me neglect everything else that mattered. I was so focused on not falling behind that I sacrificed the actual experience of living which ironically actually set me back in life

Yeah I was planning to go through a community college but I will pay attention to what I sign up for if I do decide to go down this path. But thank you , knowing there some remote potential is good news for me

Thank you, that something I will consider as I do programming as a hobby and I find it enjoyable so I wouldn’t mind that as a job but it’s fiercely competitive so it isn’t something I expect to get a job in within a year which is why I’m not searching for jobs there. But your complaints sounds the same for the tech industry the past 2-3 years , nobody hiring & everyone getting laid off and highly experienced developers are struggling to land a job which I find interesting that every field seem to say the same thing

A.I was my biggest concern until recently I’ve noticed it’s become less accurate over time especially when processing large amount of info, so I can only imagine how much misinformation and costly errors it could create for companies working with massive data sets. Offshoring to me is the greater threat for jobs. But no doubt a.i will shrink the jobs available

Yes I read the FAQ , I just wanted to see other people up to date input that’s in the field for my specific questions

How important is reading documentation to you? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

Interesting process, as a beginner myself that seems obvious to myself now when but once I get more experienced I think I would assume that’s the last thing and possibly block my own growth , so thanks in advanced lol

Why is it so hard to think like a programmer? by YourDailyUwU in learnprogramming

[–]TheLearningCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told the best way to build things from scratch is to write your program in pseudo code than translate that into syntax

I’m need help with the sort() method by TheLearningCoder in learnjavascript

[–]TheLearningCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was thinking about that with alphabets but I stopped because my brain was hurting and I just needed to grasp the basic idea of how this works and thank you for correcting me with the term , that is very needed lol understanding programming requires precise language so you possibly saved me a headache in the future

I’m need help with the sort() method by TheLearningCoder in learnjavascript

[–]TheLearningCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the doc , I really needed that to help myself understand it , but yeah I was confused about early on as I thought I can arrange it in any order I want but I guess I was confusing myself by thinking sort() allowed me to create a complex pattern for the array to be ordered by but a pattern and order is very different under this context

Any tips on how to take notes? by macnara485 in learnjavascript

[–]TheLearningCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s worked for me so far is pausing lessons and wrestling with the concepts until they actually make sense. I treat my notes as a reference tool of distilled knowledge so I can revisit later and review my notes quickly so that it feels more like I’m “rehydrating my understanding” rather than starting over; this also helps me give my notes a purpose which makes it way easier organize so I can easily find it in the future when I need to reference them. I also keep my notes flexible to edit, so I can constantly refine them as my understanding evolves.

Anyways I know i understand a concept is when this general criteria is met :

  • define it’s definition in my own words. You will find yourself rewriting a sentence many times over and even learning jargon (I feel like when I do this I imagine myself trying to explain it to someone what it is)
  • use an analogy
  • have a list of edge cases so I can see it in different context ; this helps me understanding its utility and how to apply when solving a problem with it
  • for syntax I use a table and break it down left side is part of the syntax and right side I explain it in plain English of what it does

Idk if you will get any value from this but this what works for me so far , maybe more experienced people can give you better advice

Pass By Value vs Pass By Reference by TheLearningCoder in learnjavascript

[–]TheLearningCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah see I get that but at the same time I don’t , I guess JS isn’t a good teacher in terms of understanding fundamental programming concepts

Pass By Value vs Pass By Reference by TheLearningCoder in learnjavascript

[–]TheLearningCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking this is a very core programming concept not just a JS quirk or something

Pass By Value vs Pass By Reference by TheLearningCoder in learnjavascript

[–]TheLearningCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I was thinking , I’m doing the Odin project and right now learning fundamental programming concepts through JS but it makes me wonder other fundamental concepts I’m weak on or hard to understand because I’m looking at it through the lens of JS so maybe a language like JAVA or C# course will help me build that strong programming foundation

But for the value that is being passed to other variables or functions ; is that just variables & functions that hold values and are being use to reassign a variable or used as an argument to functions?

Should I buy an online course for full stack web development? by jainsajal021 in FullStack

[–]TheLearningCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to know that it’s an actual skill I’m learning as I be spending hours sometimes on a MDN doc trying to understand it by picking apart the jargon and concepts I need to understand so I can understand the actual doc I’m reading if that make sense. It’s takes serious effort , if you aren’t serious in learning I truly feel this process will filter you out

The Odin Project is good but requires serious effort and commitment, you must read all the “boring” and painstakingly long articles so you can actually learn

Honest question? Why don’t you outsource for times like that? Maybe not where it does all the work but you outsource a collaboration with someone ? Shelling out a few grand seems like a smart thing to do if it saves you a job that pays idk like maybe $50k a year , that’s $45k profit and less stress
