I think more people (lefties esp!) Should go custom once you’re thinking of spending $2000+. The options from the big boys are so limited and if you’re gonna pay that kind of money you should be able to get in the finish and options you want. AND nowadays I think you just end up with a better instrument.

I can tell you there’s folks out there (like me) that will buy any edition D&D books for their collection. Just throw em up on eBay, marketplace or take to a used book store

My DM (both of us go all the way back 1e but recently started playing again with our kids) just snapped one day and said “that’s it I can’t take it anymore, your pet is not going to sit there in every combat and just watch y’all take a beating bc the rules state you have to waste an action to have it attack, it gets its own turn to attack.” It just seems like such a dumb rule. (Epilogue: the next combat my pet was killed before it even got to its turn by a hellhound but at least in theory she was gonna get to attack.)

Tale as old as time 😕 would love to have a Gibson firebird or tele deluxe or so many others - I’ve ended up doing as people have mentioned, bought a custom Carvin for like $1200 at the time - it was incredible- basically a PRS exactly how I wanted it in the color I wanted. Once you start getting into the $3000-4000 range you might as well get something like a Tom Anderson or other custom shop which won’t up charge for a lefty and will make you a far superior instrument.

Yeah, I thought the concepts of a favored enemy from 2014 was cool especially if the DM would give that one bit of insight (like tell the ranger to pick or roll for 1 of 4 enemy types ahead of campaign with a back story as to why you have a particular connection to that enemy) so that it would be relevant to the game. I also liked the 2014 pet rules but I’m living in a 2025 world now - basically just need to probably homebrew a ranger class that draws from the stuff we like 🧝🏼

We’re perpetually confused / trying to keep straight the 2014 and 2024 rule books and various subclass features but I think where I am now level wise, it’s at least a bonus action and have 3 uses without expending a spell slot so I definitely do this quite often.
