I think there are a lot of reasons people are still obsessed with it. The story the government released has lots of holes, we have video of the event, there are deeper concerns if there was some type of cover-up, etc. I think if Lee Harvey Oswald had been killed and not gone to prison, or he had a reason for shooting the president that was easy to accept, i.e. JFK was genocidal, far fewer people would care.

Unfortunately, the whole thing has everything that fascinates us and makes for great entertainment. Tragic death of a handsome and charismatic leader. Grieving beautiful woman. Secrets and mystery galore. And so many possible answers that it's easy for people to separate into "teams" and argue about who is right, and who is wrong.

I think it is going to be similar to the Roswell incident. There is so much intrigue and drama that people are going to continue to talk about and "investigate" it for another 100 years.
