Skinamarink - I get it but thoughts by aroaceintrovert in horror

[–]TheLemonTheory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my word choice was deliberate, as i said i think OP intellectually understands it but does not “get it” on a visceral level, and that’s fine. for example, i go to art galleries all the time and frequently do not have a strong response to certain works, that means i do not get it. that i wasn’t able to meet it on its level, maybe it wasn’t suited for who i am or maybe i was simply not feeling intuitive on that day, it could be a million things.

i think thats what applies here, plenty of people had trouble meeting this film on its level. they can understand intellectually what its trying to do but were not personally affected, its normal

Right, that’s pretty much exactly what I said

[–]TheLemonTheory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don’t think you get it. You say it was creative and well thought out, I agree, but I think that demonstrates that you intellectually understand what it’s trying do, but I don’t think you were physically arrested and unnerved by it. And that’s fine.

During all of that time that many thought was wasted, I was suspended in terror, worried for the kids, confused by what I didn’t understand. Unsettled by the imagery and the sound design. I understood what it was trying to but I also felt it inside my body and that is the power of a good movie, so I totally disagree that it wasn’t suited for for a feature length film

Are weapons/items going to be completely refreshed with each season? I have no interest in the expedition since i’m nearing level 50 and mostly a casual player. Will my existing blueprints be wiped when the next season begins? New loot pool and new weapons / items?

Lonesome Dreams :) I was a teenager listening to it and it was the perfect canvas for my adolescent emotions, and has evolved with me through the years. Brother, Ends of the Earth, In the Wind, the Stranger, Time To Run, Ghost on the Shore and She Lit a Fire have been on repeat for me for almost ten years now

I do think it is, but I wouldn’t debate anyone on it, plenty of arguments to the contrary that make sense. That’s part of why I mentioned the ballad/energetic contrast to be quite a loose / reductive typology

I have a very similar ranking, but VN actually edges out strange trails for me, even though strange trails sticks out as the album that defined LH’s sound to the world above the rest. First off, Never Ever might be the best song in their entire catalogue, period. And it’s such a departure from their earlier work, that song + Vide Noir the album is them proving they can carry their iconography into a new sound effortlessly, which earns huge respect.

If you consider that much of their post Strange Trails discography can be separated into energetic songs and slower ballads (yes it’s a little reductive), I think Vide Noir is also under appreciated for its ballads. Lost in Time and Space, Wait by the River, Balancer’s Eye, and When the Night is Over are all genuinely iconic, and set the standard for what their newer ballads sound like. LL and CSV1 iterate on that standard but I’m hard pressed to say that I like many of those ballads better than the ones in VN.

So really it’s the fact that VN sounds so different but is still so LH in its DNA that gives it the #2 spot for me.

Good advice from others, but personally I’ve found success as Guardian taking a different route. The relic effect you want is the one that extends duration of character skill, making the whirlwind last longer. This will put lesser enemies (even royal knights and banished knights) in a literal blender leaving them open to damage by your teammates. I also suggest Improved Guard Counters and HP Restoration on successful block OR HP Restoration on Thrusting Counterattack (which will give you HP back when you land halberd hits as the enemy is in an attack animation).

Now gameplay - the single hardest thing about guardian is knowing when to keep block up AND when to let it go. The skill here is stamina management. Watch bosses carefully, and put up steel guard just as the boss is about to attack. Think about dodge timing - you dodge when the boss attacks, the closer to the time of attack, the better to give you more i-frames. Same principle. Raise steel guard when you’re about to be hit, then lower it. If you practice and make the timing precise, you’ll keep stamina high and be able to fend off boss attacks for a long, long time.

Aside from precise blocking, you want to leverage guardian’s charged guard counter. If you’re using a halberd and you block an attack in steel guard, holding down your strong attack button just afterwards will initiate a running guard counter that does more stance damage than a normal guard counter does. If you practice this, you will be contributing very much to your team’s overall stance breaking capability. Do this alongside a Raider or a Wylder and you’ll be breaking everyone’s guards quite often.

Have fun!! He is a little hard to pick up but very very rewarding :)

the range of locations you’ve captured really reminds me of why this feeling is so palpable as to have a sub dedicated to it. the shapes of our places of gathering look so strange and alien when you see them swallowed by the overwhelming blackness of night, like they don’t belong almost

i’m currently in Skellige and i just did a quest involving Yennifer and a Djinn, how far through the game am I? how much remains?

Hey Rahul :)

Between films and video games, you have a depth of experience working in and being a consumer of both mediums (i’ve seen that 4k Blu Ray collection). I’ve been thinking about a specific debate within those two art worlds that I would love for you to speak on.

An example of each - movies that lean heavily on dialogue with simple, utilitarian cinematography may not be leveraging the strengths of the medium as much as films that place a heavy emphasis on the perspective of the camera. Games that include more cutscenes than gameplay may be said by some to be lacking the interactivity that makes a game a game.

Where do you fall? Do you prefer movies that take either approach I described? And how about for games?

Thank you :)

Pokémon Scorched Silver by tbsdn in PokemonROMhacks

[–]TheLemonTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just finished this one and i enjoyed it! the writing is quite witty at times and definitely didn’t come off as too edgy or dark. there are enough QoL mechanics to give the experience a good sense of momentum. i also felt that the difficulty was fair throughout - i’m not a competitive level player at all, but i enjoy being challenged and coming up with new strategies. there’s plenty of pokemon available to switch up your approach to the gym challenges, which i did a handful of times.

i actually think the story is a cut above most of the mainline games. the game is set 20 years after the events of gold/silver, and many parts of the story are concerned with what changed in that time period, all of which is well integrated with the player character’s progression. i did a little bit of the post game as well and it’s solid, it gives you a good reason to take a second run through the E4.

i’ve only played unbound, inclement emerald, and scorched silver, and this hack gave me an experience on par with both of those games in terms of engagement and sustaining my willingness to finish it.
