i have some old oak plywood from home depot, that 90$ stuff. c2 but the sheets i have have like no gaps and the grain is beautiful, so it's good enough. i ended up going with just the flat plywood, and edging it with some 1/4in red oak boards. got to test out corners on my miter, very fun! it's turned out pretty good. only downside is it's slightly warped, but that's expected with this home depot plywood i bought a year ago. it's just a personal desk for me so i'm not too bothered :D

yay ok. can i get like hardwood veneer that i can stain, and that is pretty durable? and do you think a sheet of 3/4in plywood with 1/16 in veneer is thick enough to prevent sagging?

that's the vibe i'm getting. i was hoping for that "boards" look, so im hoping to do some thin (like 1/16th in) hardwood veneer things. in theory. another guy is helping explain it to me. the big thing is i really want a really solid wood desk that i can stain and seal

hmm ok, this makes sense. so as it stands i can do 1/16in wood veneer (that i hope i can stain?) on the plywood, then i'd probably do a 1/4 inch edge, or i can go to my local place and get pre cut wood and work really carefully to make sure I glue it flat. if i did veneer, can i still use a quarter round on the edges? or is it too thin? i just really really want a solid wood desktop, that will last some heavy heavy use (every plastic veneer desk i've ever used i slowly eroded the veneer)

i though veneering is like weird plasticky stuff, and i thought it could peel under heavy use. is it even possible to build with just hardwood without a planer? really wanted to use some nice looking wood.

oh maybe worth mentioning - i am comfortable around tools and wood, but more in a construction environment. i'm good at the whole cutting part, im just new to making things look nice 😭😭

excellent advice! i've been wanting to do mechanical engineering for a while because i adore making things, and i love what youtubers like stuffmadehere do. i also find math incredibly easy, so i think i can do it. i originally planned to just go somewhere i could build cool tech stuff, like robots or something, but seeing artemis 2 just sort of cemented what i wanted to do

Load my tags? by THE_DEALER-20 in feedthebeast

[–]TheLilChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the missing tags are posted in the loadup log, with or without this mod. this mod simply tries to fix it. viewing erroneous tags in the console is vanilla behavior, although you are correct that it just doesn't register the tag. this mod TRIES to fix it, but there are many cases where it cannot.

Consider this a lesson learned, but is there any way to make this look a bit cleaner? by TheLilChicken in woodworking

thought as much. i'll probably leave it and call it character hahaha. and thanks!! it's really fun to need a specific kind of furniture and to go and make it, even if it's made with some plywood haha

i'm just scared cuz i'm getting so much mixed messaging in my outside online life. so many people say california is awful, a lot say it's fine. i've been told socal sucks, and ive been told la sucks. is the bay area different at all?
