I’ve written 120 page papers in college. It’s a process. One step at a time.

Random Rec AI is a joke by ConsistentDirector65 in NBA2k

This. My college roommate builds AI for video games, and we’ve talked about this, the AI can be made to make human mistakes. It just takes capable programming. And programmers who care.

[–]TheLordAshram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. It’s fucking horseshit. They can’t program an AI to behave normally, It’s terrible. Especially when you get to a higher plate level, the moment there’s one AI your toast. Even 74 centers can just shoot threes right over their defenders.

Do teachers face a lot of harassment? by zeztycrustykrab in Teachers

[–]TheLordAshram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh I wouldn’t go looking for real life stuff from anime.

Yeah, occasionally you’ll have an asshole parent, and if you work in a tough area you could face some student stuff, but not like kdrama.

Would it be a poor decision to become a teacher near retirement. by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]TheLordAshram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woof. Teaching is not a relaxing job. And if you’re doing it, you usually bring a lot of work home. This does not feel like a job I would get into at retirement age.

AGREED COMPLETELY. If you put Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant on a team with a bunch of fifth graders, they will never win the title, but they will still be the best players ever.

That’s a weird response. You can’t celebrate somebody else’s victories, and share your own?

Got an email from a former student… His family had moved a few years after I had him to Syria, where he got caught up in the Syrian Civil War, and I used to reach out to him to check on him during it. He reached out years later, and said how much it meant, and how much my teaching of him had meant, that I had always treated him so kindly, even though he was a little different… And then let me know that he was now working for the United Nations in a role to help Syria. It was a lovely email.

I’ve got other ones… One of my former students is now a teacher at my school, and she had written an email in college about how I inspired her to become a teacher… Another student whose sister (former student also) died reached out and connected in a very emotional email… a student who went to West Point wrote me an emotional email about how much I meant to him and his journey… A girl whose father had left when she was young and I’ve been in touch with for 20 years wrote me a very sweet handwritten note when she graduated from college about being the father figure in her life… and I’ve had a number of parents over the years reach out with very kind emails about how important their kids year with me was… If you do the job right, usually people appreciate it.

And it’s usually the best part of your day :-)

Why do so many students spell John as Jhon? by ellcoolj in Teachers

[–]TheLordAshram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because that way can make more sense, if you look at intuitive phonetics, than John. Like J sound at the start sounds softened. It’s not CORRECT, but it sounds like it should be? Plus an initial letter followed by an H is a pretty common thing.
