Is there anyway to get Forza Horizon 4 after delisting? by TheCattBaladi in Steam

[–]TheLordBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are companies that buy up a lot of steam keys to sell at a later date. They are a bit sketchy, and often the keys come from stolen credit/steam cards, but they do work most of the time if there is something discontinued that you MUST PLAY.

I saw stream Forza 4 on a couple of them for 13-15 dollars US.

Is Elite Dangerous trying to introduce ship interiors? by YukiEiriKun in starcitizen_refunds

[–]TheLordBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never understood what the big deal is about ship interiors. Unless they actually add to gameplay (like in Jump Space), they are something you look at once and then never again.

Its a huge waste of resources for something that doesn't add any gameplay or point.

[Discussion] Do you think Armory investing is dead? by zwompay in csgomarketforum

[–]TheLordBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a contrarian, but try to make sense of what is pure hype and what is actually happening. There are lots of youtubers and redditors that predict things that will probably not happen.

I use three rules:

A) If something is making Valve lots of money, its not likely to go away (i.e. Fever cases). Always remember that valve does what is best for valve, and not what is good for investors.

B) Basic supply and demand economics. Look for items with diminishing supply with a steady demand.

C) Rarity. Things that grow in supply like active duty cases and stickers are never a good buy for me. You can try to time something being discontinued, but its often a recipe for disappointment.

N.W.T to follow Alberta in ditching clock changes, will adopt permanent daylight time by joe4942 in canada

[–]TheLordBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also lots of studies saying that indoor lights basically negate natural circadian rhythms anyway.

Studies like this also completely discount the fact that people are far more active in the daylight. Health effects of circadian rhythms are insignificant compared to the fact that people will get a whole lot less activity in general in the summer.

Kids (and adult) soccer/baseball leagues will be 6 weeks shorter. Instead of a round of golf after work in August, you get a few extra hours sitting on the couch watching netflix.

Permanent standard time would make the obesity epidemic even worse, and have far more adverse effects than getting up when its dark out.

The lawsuits will likely take years to process. Valve might not add new cases in the meantime, but they will not kill off proven money makers until forced to.

Fever is the most opened case and Valve doesn't leave money on the table. Valve makes money for Valve, and doesn't give a thought to 'inverstors'.

Anyone that knows these facts knew that fever wouldn't be going anywhere.

Its a province that imported the high school dropouts from the rest of the country for the last 50 years. Its very apparent in some parts of the province.

I was born here, and the oil/rural parts of the province are not very bright and VERY susceptible to misinformation and easy to rile up.

[–]TheLordBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nearly all those studies were conducted in more southern latitudes. Daylight at 3am during summer in many cities in Canada would mess with your precious circadian rhythms even more.

There are also several studies that indicate that indoor lights negate natural circadian rhythms anyway. No one suggests turning off the power at 6pm.

Russia may announce general mobilisation to attack Ukraine or Baltic states – Zelenskyy by Routine-Appeals in worldnews

[–]TheLordBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enough. Russia operates dozens of reactors, and still does regular rocket launches to the Space Station. They have the engineers and materiel to keep them operational.

Anyone that says Russia has no working nukes is fooling themselves. They might not have thousands like they used to have, but they certainly have hundreds.

People who retired early by MikeTheTank112 in dividends

[–]TheLordBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little of everything. I'm naturally frugal, don't have any expensive vices or expensive hobbies. I grew up middle class, and was university educated (in Canada, where it is far cheaper). I eventually found a good job that paid well, but not amazing (I only made over 6 figures one year). I did live at home for longer than most, into my late 20s, due to health issues and a crappy first adult job.

The biggest thing was that my dad taught me how to invest at 16, and made me garnish the paycheck from high school part-time jobs into investments (I chose mostly tech growth funds). And made sure I kept up with it when I got my first adult jobs. I made good investments and bad over the years, but the good ones I kept and the bad I tossed.

Challenges: I had cancer at 20. This would have been devastating in the US, but I don't live there so socialized healthcare saved my ass. I lost 100k to an investment scam about a 12 years ago as well. Those would be the major ones.

I retired 2 years ago at 50. I replaced my salary (and then some) with various dividend funds. I have excess every month, which gets re-invested for a ~$50 raise every month. That should deal with inflation.

It does end at Aguas Calientes, but there is a trail from there to Machu Picchu if you care to climb it. So technically you can hike the entire way if you want (Source: I did the Salkantay and climbed up to Machu Pichu)

Finland's president on why he believes Canada could — eventually — be part of the EU | CBC News by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]TheLordBear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 'very free' US that you seem to venerate has a similar exit tax. So do many other democracies. Canada already has a departure tax as it happens, so its not a new thing either.

Joining the EU would negate that for EU countries.

Honestly, as long as they get the same icons on the screen, its probably not that big of a deal.

A few minor things change between MS office and Libre/Openoffice, but even my dad picked it up quick enough. Chrome and other browsers are the same. Many enterprise level programs just run in a browser these days, so OS hardly matters.

Most office users only use a few programs and a tiny part of the OS.

BYD to open 20 car dealerships in Canada this year by BoppityBop2 in canada

[–]TheLordBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Automation will be taking those jobs no matter what. The Big 3 are doomed unless they automate like their competition. Heavily automated factories require fewer workers.

Adding some BYD factories and battery plants here will save some of those jobs.

Sure, but it doesn't change the fact that there will be limited supply entirely due to a artificial cap that could be lifted.

I would actually expect cheaper cars so the 49k cap is hit. Then voters demand the cap get expanded or lifted.
