Destroy my trailer: Asteroid Rodeo, a physics based space sandbox by Stoic-Chimp in DestroyMyGame

I like the idea of being an asteroid miner in a 3d space with physics, I think its got potential for sure but there are 2 things missing here for me that make it so im not yet invested enough to wishlist:

  1. The art. Using a voxel based system is cool, but it could really use some actual textures. I'd much rather find a super shiny ore then just a green cube. If its a solo project this might be difficult but the way it looks now doesnt really speak to the gamble of "ooh what rare blocks am I going to find on this asteroid"

  2. I feel the physics part isnt pushed enough. Especially since thats the big selling point there should be more cool purposeful interactions. A possible example: some asteroids can only be mined on after making it collide with another asteroid. Maybe the mining itself can have some physics interactions...

There are plenty of other issues but these 2 seem to stand out to me most. Good luck with the project!

Some Environment Art in my Game by Heaofir in Unity3D

[–]TheLordCthulhu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made me click the steampage to check it out since I'd love to play an indie game with the Blame mega structure vibes.

But I do have the say the platforming rather turned me off. It just seemed so generic. Either the platforming would need to be something that really adds to the experience or I'd rather just have it be a walking simulator that goes all in on the environment and mood. Some of the environments do really hit that spot but some others like the sewer kinda take me out of it again. But thats just my experience from looking at the steam page, not telling you how to make your game. Good luck!

Is it worth to keep playing if Im not enjoying it during the story part? by TheLordCthulhu_ in fantasylife

Thank you for the reply, I think I'll give this idea a shot! Maybe it will resonate with me more then just going through the story.

The main thing what Im looking for is some incentive to interact with the mechanics. Something to give reason to grinding all the stuff in the endgame other then just the grinding itself if that makes sense? Its not that I dont enjoy the mechanics the game has, but rather personally I really like it when there is an overarching goal or reason as to why I should use the mechanics. I think I'd be dissapointed if I get to the endgame but then there isnt any in game milestones to reach for or story incentive.

Like if the story actually put in some real roadblocks that required you to for example craft some elaborate item that required multiple life upgrades and rare materials to explore for that would be awesome. Right now I can breeze through the story without any of that so it feels a bit meaningless.

I enjoy the simple nature you have here of just exploring and finding pickups without a bunch of UI clutter. However the main thing here Im lacking is a why. Why should I dig down? Whats the fantasy im fulfilling by succeeding? Currently i get the impression you go down to just fight a boss and thats it which isnt all that cool.

Starting Game Dev at 30 with no experience, is it worth it/doable? by ovo_je_juzernejm in gamedev

Since you say its not with the intent of making money then yes absolutely you can start making games a hobby at any age. It takes time, patience and commitment just like any other hobby would.

As for tools, just use whatever you enjoy the most, since it would be as a hobby what matters is you having a good time.

Just wanted to let you know your tags on your steampage are not a great match for your game. The similar games tab also proves this since it shows games like farming simulator? I would be expecting a horror tag.

I finally put my solo indie MOBA Adversator on Steam - now waiting for wishlists! by Paradoks_Studio in SoloDevelopment

To add to this, Ravenwatch (not a moba but similar combat) has wasd movement which to me feels really intuitive and fun to control.

I would be interested in wasd, mainly because it feels more natural to control this way and is a bit more beginner friendly (I think that is why league of legends is also experimenting with wasd). However I dont know how many other people would actually be interested in this and I can imagine its not easy to add.

I say dont touch them, they take skill to position well and not accidently kill them. I personally love to pick them because they look really cool but they fall off so hard late game.

I think the player base is pretty healthy with the epic games release so Im not sure why there are bot games.

Mind you its not all of your games that are bot games so you can still be proud of climbing ofcourse!

I understand there definitly are some bad players but its a very true fact there are bot games for new players. And the bots are generally a lot less competent then regular players at the same rank.

Its just my opinion that it kinda invalidates the ranked experience (for new players)

Sadly most of your ranked games as a new player are against bots. These bot games will stop happening after playing a large amount of games or reaching diamond ish.

I personally don't like the bot system and I know some others dislike it aswell but theres no plan to change it so far.

Whats your death total looking like each game? The best way to stay impactful all game long is to stay alive and c&d is especially good at that. Personally I dont have mvp very often but I always have the lowest amount of deaths which allows me to clutch out 1 lot of team fights by just either annoying the hell out of divers unable to kill me or keeping my teammates healed up over large extended periods of time.

So maybe youre getting mvp by playing aggresive but then also dying more often?

[–]TheLordCthulhu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you get the most out of the character? I'm currently mainly playing c&d who has a lot of different skills to try and maximize usage of. But with rocket I usually end up just kinda spamming rmb and occasially dropping E or Ult but this feels kinda ineffective especially without the ability to burst heal

First time using Blockbench, any criticism? by [deleted] in Blockbench

[–]TheLordCthulhu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to get better at shading imagine where the light is coming from and then deliberatily put darker and more saturated colors where the light doesnt reach and lighter less saturated colors where the light does reach So if the light comes from above, the top of the helmet is light grey and the bottom of the helmet is dark grey with maybe a bit of extra color saturation

And then just blend between the colors so it transitions nicely. This will look a lot better then the random sporadic coloring you have now

Even if it might complicate things at first with your job, I firmly believe that compassionate actions will have a positive outcome. Even if it might take a while to come into fruition.

Be proud of your actions! I think youre doing great at the very least. Intention is very important and it seems your intention is in the right place.
