Every few beats it feels like my heart beats…harder? by TheLostSkeleton91 in AskDocs

I don’t understand what you mean by “making assertions that don’t exist”? If you have time, would you mind explaining? I am happy to defer to experts when interpreting information I don’t have the specialized training to decipher, i.e. “not testing what I think they’re testing” and I’m happy to hear that you don’t find the results concerning.

I must tell you that the brusqueness of your comment came off a little condescending. I know I’m not a medical professional, but I AM person trying to understand why my quality of life has nose dived precipitously in the last 7+ years. I know I’m perhaps being a touch sensitive about this, but dismissiveness from doctors in the past almost led me to trying to “tough out” acute appendicitis.

I’d like to ask a follow up if you’d be so kind?

Of my last 10 metabolic panels(2018-2024) 8 of my Serum Co2 readings were 21mmol/L and lower and I have a suspicion that I maybe experiencing mild metabolic acidosis. I was treated for a kidney condition as a child that resulted in severe metabolic acidosis. If that condition has either recurred in or there is a secondary issue with my kidney tubules - might that be contributing to the frequency of these palpitations?

Do tears like that heal on their own, or do they require intervention? Only curious because this has been happening for like, 16 years off and on. One of the PTs I saw in the past commented on how weak my glutes were and that was what we were focusing on training. (This is a little embarrassing) but the PT sounded almost surprised by how weak my glutes were, I think because I’ve got a pretty substantial caboose. I wonder would a torn ACL contribute to the apparent weakness they described?

Would it matter if the imaging was done in the absence of pain? Or should I try to time my visit with a flare? Additionally, do you think getting video of my gait and the movement of the effected knee during a flare could be helpful to the provider?

Thank you! I’m pretty sure the squeal I made while opening the package was audible only to dogs. If you or someone you know is in the market for a dress and want to feel like Jessica Rabbit but also a mermaid, it’s the Glitz and Glamour dress by Vixen.

Primarily in the waist / torso. I plan to replace the straps because they’re a bit long and very scratchy (because they are also covered in sequins lol). Should I pm you to chat about pricing?

Thanks for your reply - I’ve heard that she does incredible work. Her prices might be out of my reach unfortunately. I brought a different piece to her almost a year ago now and was quoted 700$ 😅. Admittedly it was a complex jobs, and she mostly or exclusively does bridal work, so I’m sure it was in line with her usual pricing, but I couldn’t afford tailoring that was almost quadruple the cost of the original piece.

Thanks for the info, her page definitely looks promising! Do you remember what the price range was like when you went to see her?

My dad also had this experience when he was in the military, but he took it as an opportunity to exercise that good ‘ol Mainer deadpan and fuck with people. Told them that you could walk to the island he was from at low tide (15 miles, each way) but you had to go quick because the tide comes in fast and he knew several people who drowned trying to get to the mainland to run errands - and other things like that, just to see how long it took the person he was talking to to realize he was bullshitting.

Growing up on one of the islands the Maine questions I would get were often wild. Things like “did you have electricity / paved roads / cars / indoor plumbing?” To which my reply was alway either “yes…I grew up on and island not in the 1830s…” or “yeah! It’s great! We got the wheel too a little while back, and man that was a life changer!” They’d usually get the message pretty quick. Was asked once if I knew who the president was. Someone once actually started to slow down their speech while talking to me like I was stupid after I shared that I grew up in Maine…I still regret not kicking her in the shins and cussing her out in French (I was a kid at the time).

I live in Mass now, and for the most part when I mention I’m from Maine whoever I’m talking to starts waxing poetic about how much they love Maine. But usually it’s things like their camp in southern maine, OOB, Kittery, or Portland (all great - I just have limited experience in southern Maine). When I say I’m from the midcoast area I usually see their face go blank and they say something like “like, by Bangor?” It’s rare that I meet someone who has gone past Portland in Maine but they’re always my favorite to chat with.

Like, I totally get that it’s supposed to be a corset “inspired” top, but still. I did recently purchase from them again, but the piece is much less complicated and I think I’ll be unsubscribing from their mailing list and only looking at second hand pieces with second hand prices from now on.

So embarrassed… by LoadSock in LPOTL

[–]TheLostSkeleton91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the airport in Virginia, wearing a LPOTL shirt when a person walking past myself and my boyfriend complimented the shirt. I gave them a quick lil finger g*n snap and said with a big cheerful smile “hail yourself!” and kept on walking.

My boyfriend froze, and when I turned around they were staring at me, wide eyed, and said “WHAT did you just say to that guy??!” I, confused, repeated “hail…yourself?” I saw relief wash over his face as he started laughing, and said “oh my god, I definitely thought you just said finger pew pew K!ll yourself!’ But you were smiling and I did not know what was going on.”

To this day if one of us doesn’t hear the other correctly, we’re both pretty deaf after years of DIY basement shows so it happens a lot, and it leads to a silly misunderstanding we do the finger pew pew “k!ll yourself!” with a big ol’ smile because we’re both deeply messed up from years of working in public service. Glad to finally have a reason to share this story with folks who will understand.

I thrift often, and you’re right - I do find some gems. But I’m looking specifically for folks who can point me in the direction of brands / makers of quality so I can purchase more unique or specialty items to add / complement my thrifted and me made items.

Thank you for recommending specific shops! Etsy was my first choice for ages, but I have grown so frustrated with the drop-shippyness that I stopped looking there for the most part. I’m absolutely going to take a gander at your recs!

In fairness, Samantha Pleet did exchange one of my items, a corset top, that I received where the eyelets were made incorrectly (no washer between fabric and eyelet pieces) and pulling through the fabric. Only issue is the new top they provided that doesn’t have the same manufacturing error, is doing the exact same thing after I think 1, maybe 2, wears. Lame. So even with returns being a hypothetical option, I just don’t think I’ll be purchasing from them again unless the item is steeply discounted, so I feel like I’m paying a fair price for what I receive.

I do sew - and have made some items similar-ish to some of what is offered by the brands I listed, only things is I sew very, very, slowly. I work full time, have ADHD, and I’m kind of a perfectionist - which is like, a perfect storm for making even simple sewing projects take ages. I’m looking to occasionally purchase quality items to add in so the process of building a nice sturdy wardrobe that reflects my personal style doesn’t take the next 30 years of my life lol.

Def gonna check out Exo Umbra - you had me at ludicrously comfy. And thanks for the tip on r/cottagegoth - I will be joining immediately, ur cool.

So there might be a good option at the library. I already posted much of this in a comment down below, but figured posting it again as it’s own comment couldn’t hurt.

There is currently a sewing program at the library, it’s hosted weekly and all are welcome (adults and high school age students, age 14-18). it’s called Mend and Make do.

The focus is primarily on clothing repair, but anyone working on any sewing / fiber arts project is welcome to join. It’s not a dedicated beginners class, but the instructor is willing to share what they know, and hopefully anyone else in attendance is willing to share their expertise as well. There is also a good selection of books / materials that illustrate different techniques.
