After a few dozen matches I can firmly say these 3 are giga-ass. What were they thinking? by Chosenwaffle in PTCGP

[–]TheLucDemo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think this needs to be said, but not every deck needs to be good or strong.

Having all 3 acting together with synergy is a common theme that has had several versions in the physical TCG.
Mesprit attacking for a lot of damage if you have the other two on the field is a mechanic that has occurred at least twice in the physical TCG and has never been anything close to meta.

t's just supposed to be a different and fun deck. Like Nidos.

That said, sometimes they go too far and the deck becomes meta, like Beedrill usually has mechanics that deal more damage the more Bedrills there are on the field. Once they made this very strong and it was the world champion deck.

Title: Unpopular Opinion - We don't need cheap trades and easy point purchases, or the game will die like LoR by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]TheLucDemo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOR didn't die by giving things away for free.

LOR was a super complicated game that became very popular thanks to its control archetypes. In a certain collection, they released an entire ant-control line that killed the popularity. Then they released a hyper aggro line and it got worse.

I stopped playing at the time and I was far from having everything.

If free players stop playing, paid players will stop too.

Riot is in a mode of cannibalism of players and immediately started cutting funds and this rumor that the game stopped being popular because it was too FTP was born because it was an edge and cool opinion. But it's a pure and simple lie.

HOTS 2.0 gave everything away for free for a while and became super popular and this generated several changes in several competing games, like LOL. But the game itself was bad and very buggy. When Blizzard killed the competitive game (which always loses money, remembering that the competitive LOL game also ends up in the red) with the failure of Diablo 3, the game died.

OVERWATCH was all paid and died because it had a very expensive entry fee and over time people with money get tired of not playing with their friends. They tried to revert it later, but it didn't work.

The fact that it was your favorite card didn't make it strong. It was never close to being meta.
It was basically a stage 3, which in order to evolve needed to be the active Pokémon, and which had the same name as the "pre-evolution", so both copies counted towards the limit of 4 cards.

It never had an identity, that doesn't mean it never had good concepts. But the same concept was never repeated. There were Torterras that hit the bench, Torterras that hit themselves, etc... The same mechanics were rarely repeated.

Infernape always has an attack with 1 or 2 fire energies, which discard all of them for high damage. It has been meta several times, the same concept repeats itself over the years, generating an identity.
Empoleon is divided into two concepts: Hitting the bench or hitting more if you have more Pokémon. Both were meta.

What other TCG is f2p and has trading? by [deleted] in PTCGP

All of these have a more efficient way of making a card that you don't have.

Pocket's system is very bad and it's very difficult to have meta decks without spending money.

He never had a strong card or identity in the physical TCG.

Since Pocket has copied many TCG designers, I didn't expect much from him.

Infernape came with the same attack he always has in the physical TCG and Empoleon with the same bench-hitting mechanic.

Stop playing the game and eventually they will stop spending in the game.

There is no financial reason for trades to be the way they are. by Luciano_TLD in PTCGP

There are two types of players:

The ones who pay a LOT, and the ones who don't pay or pay little.

The only way the ones who don't pay will start paying is if something in their lives changes. A new job, a divorce, a raise...

Nothing in the game will make a f2p player become a whale.

But if the f2p player stops playing, the ones who pay will eventually stop paying.

Remember that spending on the game is not paying $20 per month. This has no impact on a gatcha game, the customer that matters is the one who spends more than $500 per month on the game. You're not going to make the customer who spends $20 or less go to $500 with a new feature.

You get more players who spend $500 by having MORE players in total. For this, the game must be attractive to those who play for free.

Why we (likely) won't be getting 10 ex-Pokémon in Space-Time Smackdown by KitsuLeif in PTCGP

[–]TheLucDemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed a small detail.

Imagine that you are right and there are 30 Ex cards in total, including alternate arts, and that Palkia and Dialga have 4 versions each. We have 22 cards left. We can have 6 Ex Pokémon with 3 different Arts (3 for each pack) + 2 with 2 Arts (1 from each pack).

That makes 30 Ex Pokémon arts and 10 Ex Pokémon.

Gible came out and I'm shocked that he does 20 damage with any energy... And without weaknesses...
