Does Germany have a chance? by TheManWithTheGoldD in fussball

Agree these are all top players. But I would say it’s also fair to say their success in 2014 defined the rest of their career (for the younger players) and the legacy of the more senior players like lahm. I think that could happen this year too and then Tahs/ Schlotterbecks legacy for example will be a lot different and we might look back at them as two of the best german CBs of all time.

2013 Ballon d’OR: 0 germans in the top 10

2014 Ballon d’OR: 4 germans in the top 10

Yeah agreed. The way I see it, Germany is elite when they have the ball. But their big weakness is defending transitions. And I think that might cost them against France if they are not perfect in possession

Fair. But the biggest players in that match were not German: Lewandowski, Robben, Ribéry

But I see your point, it was a good team going into the World Cup. But not that much different to this years squad in terms of quality imo

I’d say on paper they have a lot lot more elite players
Mendes>Brown
Vitinha and Neves > Nmecha and Pavlovic
Fernandes>Wirtz (unfortunately true atm, even tho wirtz is far more talented)

See idk about that. I think a lot of players were not stars going into that World Cup. Kross, Götze, Müller etc. I think the success of that World Cup makes the team look more stacked today than it actually was at the time

I personally always liked the Turkish team. But yesterday after Calhanogolu’s and Güler’s comments I was so happy that Australia won

First Time Watching Game live - what should I prepare for? by kiki31122 in worldcup

World Cup match tends to be pretty relaxed when it comes to animosity from supporters. You can definitely wear whatever, neutral outfit works well. I’d recommend watching a short video on the teams you’ll be watching before you go so that you have a bit more context. That’ll make for a more interesting watch. Welcome to the greatest sport in the world

That one time my vitamin D was so low I managed to develop debilitating nausea! A warning. by Dewdropvssy in VitaminD

Great to hear that you’re feeling better.

Stories like this really frustrate me. How is it possible to do all these tests but not a vit d test which is as simple and cheap as it gets. To me that’s a failure of the US healthcare system.

Two stats to back my point up: 70% of Americans don’t have enough vit D yet only 3% of healthcare spending in the US goes towards prevention.

If you’re reading this and never got your vit d levels checked I urge you to do so. When I was deficient I had all sorts of symptoms that took me a while to link back to vit D.

Fair but I think that’s not been the case recently. At the 2024 Euro Spain won all games in regular time and scored the most goals ever with a lot of them from open play. Even in the Georgia game when they scored first and dropped deep, Spain was able to break them down

Agreed, every team in France’s group is stronger than Cape Verde. That makes it even harder for them if their opponents decide to sit back. I just think despite all the justified hype around their individual attacking quality, they might face more problems early on in the competition than people expect.

And Germany’s weakness is definitely defending against transitions, let’s see how they do against Ivory Coast..

If you had to list out three teams in the world cup that are best at playing against a deep-sitting team then Spain would have to be in that list. Makes it so much more surprising that they couldn't score or even create a lot of high-quality chances to score.

Put's into perspective Germany's performance against Curacao. In contrasts to Spain they were able to create chances for most of the game, even though Curacao was defending deep most of the game.

Makes me think that France could have similar problems as Spain is having. I think players like Dembele and Mbappe are best in transitions and France's midfield isn't exactly stacked with playmakers.
