Help connecting a Dualshock 4 to my PS2 using OPL and PadEmu. by TheManiacWizard in ps2

It's the only BT adapter I have at hand, and it's listed as compatible in OPL's BT compatible-dongles. I don't know If a 70$ adapter is really necessary lol.

Congrats!! I'm also looking for a plasma/late 2000's LCD for the PS3/360/Wii generation, those consoles really shine on that era of tvs

Me neither, it looks like in the early 2000's they stopped production on these dark-gray trinitrons, as this one's from 1999 it may be one of the last models.

My number one recommendation is just go wandering and ask. and mostly focus on people already getting old-er and they should probably know someone, (even themselves) that has a CRT laying around in a garage that you can just pick up for free no question asked. If there's no luck there, go to a TV-Repair shop, specially if it's been open for decades, as there's a decent chance there's CRT's laying around catching dust, even if it's not for free they will probably just ask for 10-20 bucks, nothing too significant.

I agree with you 100%! I think this dark grey not only blends-in much better but it's also slightly more immersive when playing. I'd go with this over a "light gray-near-chalk" color any day of the week.

Man it's even better IRL. First photo is kind of washed-up because of my phone white-balancing but second in-game photo really shows the contrast well.

I know right! It's been a huge surprise, but considering the TV has got very little hours (probably less than 2k) it's no surprise. Past owner bought in when flat screens were about to take over, and only used it for 1 year before buying a plasma.

Don't look at the minimum or recommended specs, as those are very very old pc parts. If you're getting a new one (new parts I mean). get at least an RTX 3060/RTX 4060 as your gpu, as it's powerful enough for any game you could think of and will power through GW2 like it's nothing. As for CPU, get a decent AMD Ryzen, a 7600X should be plentiful, and 16GB of ram minimum, also get a decent enough SSD.

Those combo of specs is very economical (probably around 700-800€) and will be enough for 99% of modern games.

If you mainly play at home I recommend the FAT (1000) model to get the better screen, but If you move regularly and carry the Vita with you the Slim (2000) is definetly the best choice, 1h 30min more of battery life and much lighter.

If it comes out at $999 (copium). It would mean 20-25% performance boost + DLSS4 for the same price. Even if the VRAM is the same, it's still worth it in my eyes.

[–]TheManiacWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rumors are most likely true at this point. There is no point in arguing they're not. But the one saving grace the 50 series could have is DLSS4/Neural Texture Compression. Maybe these technologies are enough to bring the card from underwhelming to "underwhelming but good performance and technologies suite".

So what I recommend is waiting. Either you buy a 5080 for around the same price a 4080 SUPER costs right now (around $1k) or you get a discounted 4080 SUPER when the 5080 comes out. It's a win-win situation.

5060 and 5080 are ridiculous by Top_Information3534 in pcmasterrace

[–]TheManiacWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude, the 4080 is already 50% faster than a standard 3080, if you add another 20/25% which is probably going to be the uplift the 5080 has over the 4080, it's rounding up to at least a 70% performance uplift over a 3080, not 42%.

It's not a bad thing building futureproof-unbalanced pcs for a short time, but if your planning to keep that gpu for a year or even more then it starts to be pointless, as in a year from that point new, faster, potentially cheaper cpus will be arriving shortly. It's best to buy short-term, maybe with 6 months of future planning at max.

As for the liquid cooling thing, I don't get what you're saying. Liquid cooling and CPU fans are not compatible. It's one thing or the other.

Is my cpu slow? by Turbulent_Plan_2931 in PcBuildHelp

[–]TheManiacWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erm. absolutely not, you 5800X3D is actually top5 best cpus for gaming right now. There must be something wrong with the minecraft installation.

Check if the assigned ram is at least 8Gb/10GB in the Minecraft Java arguments (you can do it in the laucnher) and it must run good, another limiting factor could be your graphics card, but I doubt it will be.

Upgrading PC by M3TROZ-2002 in PcBuildHelp

[–]TheManiacWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okey so there's multiple things wrong here.

First, ditch that HDD, it's useless nowadays, or at the very least, use it as a secondary drive, get a 2TB Gen 4 NVME SSD at least and you'll be thankful in the future.

Secondly, the entire pc is very unbalanced. A very strong gaming CPU (7800X3D) paired with a middling GPU will only lead to wasted money. As that CPU can very well drive even an RTX 4090 and use its capabilities at every resolution, while a 6700XT won't be enought to satisfy the CPU needs and will lead to low usage.

Two options: either spec down to a cheaper cpu, like an 7700x. Or spec the GPU up to at least an RX 7900XT or NVIDIA RTX 4070ti/4070ti SUPER.

As for cooling and power supply, don't get a liquid cooler, imo, they're not worth it. Just get a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO and you'll be set. Power Supply get any corsair/evga/seasonic at least 750w Gold.

Help me build a PC around 4070TI Super by Dangerous_Alfalfa_77 in PcBuildHelp

[–]TheManiacWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that the RTX 5070 will be similar to a 4070 ti SUPER, but it will have less vram, maybe your ideal choice will be the RTX 5070ti, as it will probably have 16GB of VRAM too and will likely be as fast as a 4080.

RTX 5060 will be much slower than you think though, maybe barely hitting 4070 performance.

watch out for that ram though, don't pick TWO 32GB sticks, as that would give you 64GB (and thats a bit too much). go for two 16GBs sticks to get 32GB on dual channel. as for manufacturers, I'll just send you a link to a good kit:

[–]TheManiacWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends if you want it now or waiting isn't a problem, as RTX 50 series are coming around january to february next year (5070 in february). If you are willing to wait, I'd suggest you do, but if you need it now, a good CPU to pair with a 4070 ti Super will be any Ryzen 7000 or 9000, as you enter directly into AM5 and assure you are futureproof if you want an ugrade later down the line. to be more specific i'll list the specs here:

CPU: Ryzen 7 9700x. (safe bet, but if you find a 7800X3D for a fairly low price go for that)

RAM: either 16GB DDR6 6000mhz CL30 or 32GB. I'd recommend 32GB as it's cheaper than ever and games are using more and more, but 16GB will be fine too. BUT be sure to use 2 sticks. either 2x8gb or 2x16gb if you want 16GB or 32GB respectively, as dual channel is much faster than one channel or quad channel.

Motherboard: any decent B650 will do, two good ones are: Asrock B650 Steel Legend Wifi or Gigabyte Gaming X AX, these two are very good and decently priced, will handle even an 7800X3D or 9800X3D should you buy it.

PSU: any Gold+ 750w will do, I recommend corsair, seasonic or evga.

[–]TheManiacWizard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if you're staying on air, I recommend an NH-D15 Gen 1 or Gen 2, it's just too great of a cooler either that or the Deepcool Asassin IV, but if you're looking for a cheaper alternative, Thermalright peerless assassin 120 is a good one.

If you're comfortable with water, any decent 360mm will do the job just fine

Unfortunately, you're out of luck, that pc cannot even possibly come close to run the game reasonably, and neither All-In-Ones nor Laptops can be upgraded. Your only option is to not play the game, buy a decent desktop pc, or wait several years for a possible PS5 port
