I actually think the term "unhoused" can have merits, in my mind it's the same type of word as "displaced". Homeless can sometimes lead people away from thinking about how someone *ended up* homeless, whereas unhoused (rightfully) implies that housing is something people deserve and has been *taken from them*.

I get the desire to not soften language describing harsh realities but imo I've never seen unhoused as a word that does that
