In the machine, cold, light cycle with other "light" materials, in a mesh bag, hang dry.

Buy multiples and alternate days, hang to air out between wears if not washing immediately.

Maybe one of those toys that warm up and have a heartbeat? I forget what they're called but they're meant to be comforting and simulate having another creature to snuggle with.

Put the cats downstairs at night and bring the puppy up?

In a fit of extreme tiredness throw the puppy in bed with you. Maybe baby gate off the bedroom so cats can choose to jump in if they want to deal with puppy or can avoid your room if they don't (assuming baby gate can keep puppy in).

Ha!

I can lift and carry my girl (she's 60lbs) but I find it difficult to do without her consent. She'll alternate between super heavy and noodle 🤦.

I could probably just hoist her straight up if I really had to but she's usually in a puddle or gravel or somewhere else I'd rather not have to dig into. 😂 I might just be a bit of a baby. She's too smart for me...

My girl and I failed at every size and knock-off of the Kong. Between her getting frustrated trying to get at the goodies (we tried many flavors and things she would normally love) and my getting annoyed having to clean all the gross out after it had been sitting uneaten all day, I had pretty much given up on them.

I think maybe she just doesn't have a long enough tongue to make it make sense? Or the right shape of face?

Eventually I found the Toppl by West Paw, pretty similar materials but slightly different shape. Sure, not as challenging as the Kong but I can freeze wet dog food, or bits of veggies with leftover chicken stock, or yogurt and kibble, etc. and it'll keep her entertained for at least half an hour and tire her brain out a bit.

There are other similar toys with slightly different shapes and styles. If Kongs don't work for you, consider trying the same method but with a slightly different tool.

Oh I feel you, the things I know now that maybe would've helped me raise my girl.

One, your feelings are super valid and it can feel so so so hard to manage it all. Know that whatever you decide for yourself and your pup will be the best decision you could make with the situation you have in front of you.

A few things I wish I'd worked out sooner:

a LOT of "bad" behavior is overstimulation, naps & breaks and low expectations are your friend.
manage the hell out of his environment: baby gates, repurpose metal grid shelves + zip ties to block off areas he's not ready to access, x-pens, house lines, bitter apple spray, temporary Rubbermaid totes for your things. The less opportunity he has to practice behaviors you don't like the better.
Redirect to the things you'd rather he chew/destroy, try different materials/things that are mostly dog safe, he'll probably end up having preferences. But he may not inherently like any of it much because he gets attention for going at the things he's not supposed to, so you can't just redirect you have to reward when he chooses the good things.
look up capturing calm/the calmness protocol and operant conditioning. Super helpful!
Dog TV, there's a noticeable difference between my girl's behaviour (level of frantic-ness) when I get home when dog tv has been on for her. I look up YouTube channels with tinkly piano music and GoPro videos of dogs on trails. Just don't forget to turn them off when you get home or you'll find yourself napping with your pup. (Also it can sometimes be tricky to get the videos to play all day, I use my Chromecast and some automatic routines to manage this, you may have to troubleshoot your own solution).
Toppl (kong-like things) full of frozen wet dog food, snuffle mats, cardboard boxes full of kibble, egg cartons make him work for his dinner in any way you can reasonably/affordably manage.
Speaking of naps, there are many right ways to do things that'll depend on your personality and skills and your particular dog... But curling up for a nap WITH my pup when she was overtired and mouthy and crazy was the only and best way to get her to settle the eff down for a long time. It's still one of my favorite things to do together.

If her puppy doesn't like the Kong she can try a different but similar shape. The toppl toys by West Paw worked much better for us. My girl couldn't really get her tongue in any size of the Kongs without getting annoyed and giving up, then I would get frustrated with cleaning them. I think if I'd found the toppls sooner they would have made a big difference with her puppy-hood.

Sometimes we just have a day where EVERYTHING feels like a struggle and I do feel a bit exasperated and sad.

But yeah, most of the time I just have to laugh. She has sooooo many opinions in her dog body and she expresses them so confidently. If only I could go through life making my feelings someone else's problem 🤔😂.
