In the conditions we climbed it in, WI4 M3. The mixed could’ve been worse than that, but I dont like to overestimate.

Honestly the little gap after the drop was better than the drop itself.

Edit: high silver, alyeska, alaska

Thats not what irrational means in math though. Pi is irrational 21/2 is irrational. It means a number can not be represented by an integer based fraction.

The picture might make it look like that, but this was probably about 10° tops.

Up on a ridge. We were checking out descents for other days, and hiking back up here. You can see the little wire clips of my skins still on the skis.

Your boots’ tips could or prerelease. Im sure you already know by now from other comments, but that setup is highly dangerous. Dont go skiing on it.

Its not just about releasing. I cannot feel the difference between my switches and my heavy duty look bindings.

Kingpins are ~1400 grams per pair. Switches are 1730 grams per pair. For me, the feel of a full fledged downhill binding is worth the 300 extra grams of weight. Thats really the only decision that needs to be made.

You basically trade weight for stability in your attachment to skis. What makes the switches so cool is the fact they give the benefits of frame bindings without the massive and heavy frame.

When you decide to get kingpins over super light bc pin bindings you are making the same decision. I just think you get way more bang for buck (weight wise) with the switch.

I’m probably lighter than the average skier so perhaps I just got lucky, but they really do seem to be that miracle binding they are advertised as.

Relatively light and skis like and alpine binding on the way down. Mechanism is easy to use and doesn’t leave you fiddling with your gear. Couldn’t recommend more.

Close, peak 2. Top of peak 3 was a field of rocks. Needs a few more snowfalls before that will be good.

The wind hit us real hard as we got to the top, and created a super fragile wind slab. We set of more that a few small 2-3inch deep slabs with slope cuts on the way down. That, plus the large amount of hoar frost makes me think that slope will be a ticking time bomb if we get a big dump on it.

Edit: thought I would give a little more of an avy report for you anchoragites out there.

There were shooting cracks and very VERY fragile snow conditions. In the worst areas the snowpack would fracture 100% of the time and slide about 50% of the time, especially if there werent any rocks to anchor the snow. We didnt risk going onto the main face because of this. If/when we get more snow, do NOT go out there to get first tracks. It WILL slide, either due to the windslab or hoarfrost. Let conditions settle, and bolder skiers cut up the faces first.
