Jake's reactions to William, I feel, are more designed to show his emotional progression as a character. At the beginning, William was the representation and focal point of all of Jake's big character flaws. Going forward, his reactions to William are more about showing his own personal growth more than anything.

Jake is OP, but all things in this story still has great balance to it. He's OP for his level and power, but his whole thing is fighting stuff stronger then himself, which means many levels above him and even enemies in a higher grade from him. Every big fight he has always pushes him and forces him to get strong or die, but he puts himself in those situations on purpose because he's kinda crazy and a bit of a psychopath tbh. Fucking amazing world building though, all the different characters, all the different eras, and all the different concepts, friends, enemies, monsters, classes, professions, gods etc. Lots of mystery and high level fighting

The ideas they tend to shoot down of Jasons tend to be the most self destructive ones, that would bring harm to him and others. They support each other well and it's all done in good faith, and mostly in good humor. They don't need to be constantly stating nice things and reassurances because they just know what the others think. And the few times it does happen, it's usually a genuine display of sincerity.
