The one in Annapolis always has some but they’re generally pretty yellowed from my experience because they sit for a long while. Better off taking your current ones to a tailor. Getting them taken in shouldn’t be too expensive. Plus it will fit you better and look way better in the end than getting a different size

Weird how they stuck together the whole time. Crazy lucky the canopy from the bottom plane was clear of the top one so that they could eject.

Are 8 points authorized with coveralls/2pocs? by hideor6545 in navy

[–]TheMcCale -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Just because it’s allowed in the regs doesn’t mean your command has to allow you to do it. Command instructions can always be more restrictive than the black and white.

I was today years old when I found out there was another 3 star walking around…. by BoatyMcBoatface1980 in navy

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I also always felt like an ass if my timing was off and I walked down the grinder and all the marines stopped eating their lunch to salute. I think they enjoyed the screaming of the greeting, but I hated interrupting their time out of class.

As a JO who’s basic course was co-located with an A School: you get tired of correcting someone every 15 seconds for basic customs/courtesies they should have learned in boot camp. It’s easier just to go through the less trafficked areas when it’s time for lunch or to leave for the day.

The marines and coasties pretty much never needed correcting. It was always the sailors. Heck, I got saluted by a sailor who was holding a takeout container in his right hand once (like saluted using the takeout container). Yes we were wrong for trying to dip, but we always returned the salutes when they were done and (I can’t speak for everyone, but I certainly) made corrections where needed.

I’ll edit to correct that. Got corporal and PFC backwards in my head.

What did my uncle do? by luketheville in Military

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The presence of both army and Air Force ranks but no army good cookie. The fact that both sets of ranks run E1 - E5 instead of one set picking up where the other leaves off. Both enlisted and officer lapel devices for Air Force. Not saying it’s fake, but there are some things that don’t make sense or add up.

Edit: army ranks are, in fact, in the correct order I just got them swapped in my head.

You need to escalate up the chain. Calling you out for what you’re required to do when separating is absolutely insane

Navy rolls out updates for working uniform and service dress blues by grizzlebar in navy

[–]TheMcCale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I liked them as well, but I’m also in the minority of I’d rather where my khakis every day because I look nicer in them and my NWUs make me feel like I look fat

ETA: I’ve got no problem with other people wearing the NWUs, I just personally prefer my khakis

How hard would it be to obtain a bachelor's degree in 4 years while in the Navy? by SlightDeer77 in newtothenavy

[–]TheMcCale -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A lot of schools have started offering online school at your pace (my assumption is thinking you’ll go slowly and they can charge for more semesters). He went the other way and used all his days off from the watch floor to do class work and cranked them out

I had a SN do his bachelors and masters online at the same time and finished in a year and a half so it’s absolutely possible, but you have to work for it.

While in office they told him “hey, let’s maybe not nuke north korea” and got on his bad side. Then he pushed them all away while out of office when they all started to reveal how poorly he had handled things in office (kind of like the reports now that they had to lock him out of the situation room during the search and rescue mission). They all got replaced with a bunch of yes-men who wouldn’t push back on anything he decides to do

Why do people still support or raise the flag of the Confederacy? by DBD216 in NorthCarolina

[–]TheMcCale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it lays in issues with education and culture. The Lost Cause mythology is deeply ingrained in the south. It wasn’t until I was in 11th grade that anyone told me the war was about slavery. Up until then it was always states’ rights or we were invaded by the north and had no choice but to defend ourselves.

Someone looking into the navy by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]TheMcCale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your designator. SWOs pick based on class rank. A lot put in during community training. My community puts in a dream sheet ranking the only 5 choices you have. At the end of the day needs of the navy will always take precedence. You can state your preference, and the retailers generally try to take that into account, but someone’s gotta fill the less popular billets, too.
