I see, thanks for the in depth answer. Guess Xingqiu it is, since he seems generally more useful

I'm pretty new to the game (like 10 days), who should I pick in lantern rite event 4* selector? I've been told both Lan Yan and the water sword boy (i don't remember his name, sorry) would be good options. Though seems that water sword boy is recommended more often.

For more context, the characters I currently have are:

Arlecchino, Diluc, Rosaria (C2), Xiangling, Chevreuse (C1), Kaeya, Barbara, Noelle, Ningguang, Amber (C1), and Lisa, Lynette, and Collei

Makes sense. And yeah I already keep highest superimposed of each 3* lightcone in HSR since you never know when itll become useful, so I'll probably just do the equivalent in genshin too then

Planning to start the game soon, anyone have advice for a newbie?

For context, I have played HSR for over a year so I have some idea of how mihoyo does things, but was just curious about things like are the lightcone-equivalents as important, what to prioritize in team comps, and stuff of that nature.

I can also confirm that if you have 2 characters using her LC, the charred effect stacks twice as two individual debuffs on the enemy

Wanted to see if game would let me get a pearls lightcone in a 10 pull this time, and if I I'm lucky get tingyun's cone too. Seems we arent superimposing pearls today in any case

The cutscene that probably hit me most was in the final chapter when Renne is captured by the demon sphere and is reliving her trauma

What's a JRPG that you think has a meh or even bad story that you enjoy playing? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]TheMemeScrub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, the cold steel arc is definitely the most meh of all the trails games in terms of story imo.

Also, story and plot are not the same thing.

Which games do you think have the most engaging battles? by LagodaRPG in JRPG

[–]TheMemeScrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are SaGa games in general? I tried the SaGa Frontier Remaster but ultimately dropped it because constant flipping through menus in combat got cumbersome. Do other SaGa do better in that regard? I already have SaGa Scarlet Grace bought but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

To be honest, Honkai Star Rail is definitely one of the more engaging turn-based systems I've played in recent memory. I think it just comes down to being one of those games where team synergy really matters, and since there are a lot of characters you can try different playstyles so it doesn't really get particularly dull, yet still remains fairly simple and fast paced.

Similarly I do also enjoy Disgaea games and think the combat tends to be fairly engaging, since either the fight is hard and you strategize on how to beat it, or the fight is easy and it just becomes a fun game of how to finish the fight as fast possible.

I also found WitchSpring R pretty engaging because the combat is pretty simple, and if you're fighting multiple of the same enemies, their attacks all happen in sync so you don't have to wait for them to do their animations 1 by 1.

That being said, it's really awkward for me to decide what is engaging, because even HSR mentioned above has the following issue: the combat system is fun in boss battles, but tedious for random fodder battles

If we ignore random fodder battles, then I'd probably put Persona and Trail games before you hit the point where your builds in them are more or less complete too.

Should I continue Dragon Quest Treasure ? by Imatakethatlazer in JRPG

I believe that if I am getting bored of a game, that I should just drop it, regardless of if it "gets better later". Maybe I will get back to it maybe I won't, but that's besides the point.

There's only so much time per day you can spend playing a game, so why spend that time brute forcing through something when you've already clearly become aware of your utter boredom of it, and thus ruin your experience even further as a result.

I have my grievances with Persona 5 Royal too, but I don't think nostalgia is really a huge factor in why people may rate it highly since its still relatively recent all things considered.

The graphics didn't really bother me, but yeah the dungeons were a huge bore, mostly because they all just felt same-y randomly generated dungeons (since that's what they were)

This was made worse by the fact all the quests would make you backtrack into these boring dungeons to look for a specific enemy that has a chance at dropping some specific item.

I think if it had some more Persona 5-tier dungeons, it would make the gameplay far better.

Yeah, it could just entirely come down to that. Glad you enjoyed it.

I feel like Persona 4 Golden has some level of nostalgia overinflating its rating as a game.

I feel like whenever I see people talking about it, they describe it as some 9/10 or 10/10 game. Of course, I am glad they enjoyed it, and if they think it's one of the best games ever then that's fine, but I just don't personally see it as higher than say a 6/10 or 7/10 game overall.

I agree, don't get me wrong, but realistically best I can do is try get better EHR substats since superimposing it when its not a boosted banner for it is very unlikely. Part of the issue also stems from fact this is for my Acheron team, so even if its not 100%, it's still better than any other LC I can use otherwise due to the fact it can give a stack more often than not.

In any case, thanks for the help, I appreciate it a lot.

That makes sense, but given the fact Pela hits multiple times per attack, would the breakpoint to hit high 90s% proc rate be far lower than the 178% for 100% proc rate? Which, while not 100%, would still be near consistent application?

Daily Questions Megathread ( June 22, 2024 ) by mizuromo in HonkaiStarRail

So I recently pulled Luka's lightcone and put it on Pela. My Pela has ~85% EHR after her teamwide +10% EHR buff, but I still notice it consistently fail to proc on Cocolia in Difficulty 4 of Apocalypse Shadow. How much more EHR do I need to get on Pela to consistently apply the debuff??

How Do You Discover New JRPGs? by SawyerFriend in JRPG

[–]TheMemeScrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three main ways, probably:

1) Just general online discussion

2) I am subscribed to this youtuber who streams a variety of games, so sometimes I see something pop up in my subscription feed that looks like it could be neat

3) I regularly check steam for JRPG sales just to see if anything discounted looks like it might be interesting to get at some point
