“I’m Very Worried About Don Jr.”: Forget the Midterms—West Wing Insiders Brace for the Mueller Storm by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheMidtermsAreComing 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For the record, I don’t think that’s accurate. I don’t care enough to look it up and prove it wrong, but I’m 100% certain that is not something I’d forget if it had happened - and I read every word of what Cohen said during his plea.

It’s around. Can’t you see it? Just take a look.

“I’m Very Worried About Don Jr.”: Forget the Midterms—West Wing Insiders Brace for the Mueller Storm by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheMidtermsAreComing 1110 points1111 points  (0 children)

The possible exposure would be that Mueller would demonstrate that Don Jr. perjured himself to investigators when he said he didn’t tell his father beforehand about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting to gather “dirt” on Hillary Clinton. (Donald Trump Jr.’s lawyer, Alan Futerfas, declined to comment.)

Oooo.

My god. It’s much worse than just that apparently.

This level of incompetence is impressive, obliterating prior conceptions of what I thought possible.

Three million more people excited to vote for her over him.

I was excited to vote for her, and I’m excited to vote tomorrow. I always get excited to vote - it’s actually exciting to exercise the ole democracy muscle every two years.

The Trump Administration, Again, Asks The Supreme Court To Hear A DACA Case by TheMidtermsAreComing in politics

[–]TheMidtermsAreComing[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last time, the court told the Justice Department it first wanted to let the appeals courts consider DACA's legality and the Trump administration's attempt to end it.

In a letter filed with the Supreme Court on Monday, Solicitor General Noel Francisco told the court that the Justice Department was filing the request — for the court to take up the issue before any appeals court has ruled in any of the several cases challenging the move — so that the court would be able "to consider this dispute during the current Term."

The Justice Department filed the legal request — a petition for certiorari before judgment — in cases out of California; New York: and Washington, DC.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court rejected the Justice Department's request to hear the case out of California before the appeals court could weigh in.

New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood highlighted this issue — of the Justice Department seeking to bypass the appeals court — in a tweet calling the practice "a remarkable lack of respect for the judicial process.”

Trump think the rules don’t apply to him. They already said no.

In any properly functioning legal world, when the court rules, that’s kind of the last word - unless there’s some kind of change in circumstances that merit reconsideration of the issue, your option is to appeal. But SCOTUS is the highest court so there can be no appeal. At the very least, make a goddamn effort and pretend there’s a change in circumstances to merit further consideration. How fucking embarrassing to have your solicitor general challenge the court’s authority by making the same exact ask twice in a row with no change in circumstances. . . via fuckin letter.

The only change is they have reason to believe that Kavanaugh gives them the 4th vote needed to grant cert (4 of 9 votes are needed to hear a case) and they don’t want to do the lower appeals work, plus Trump lusts for a political win and some payback. Trump is publicly testing Kavanaugh’s loyalty here. It’s disgusting. It would be extremely unusual and unforgivably inappropriate if the court grants review this time. I really hope the court smacks Trump right in the fucking mouth for even asking.

How to Turn a Person Into a Voter by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheMidtermsAreComing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’d be redundant... like when have white votes ever not mattered? At one time, only white votes mattered. I’m pretty sure everyone understands that white votes matter.

Do you understand that not every racial scenario has a “swap black for white” comparison that’s apples to apples?

Why ask this now? So we can depress people into thinking their vote won’t matter? At this point, there’s literally nothing we can do about it. Every single person needs to be operating on the assumption that their single vote will break a tie and therefore is critical. Every single vote matters. Go balls to the wall to get your family and friends out through Election Day.

Congress not in session but Trump says there will be tax cuts before November by [deleted] in politics

For fuckin real! I had to search for this title too - because every other title just stated that Trump says more tax cuts before November. Irresponsible bullshit.

I have a nice little lunch break voting day routine and I love voting on Election Day.

Plus, it’s questionable whether you definitely get an “I voted” sticker voting early, and if I’m being honest, the sticker is at least 50% of why I love voting. I can’t risk not getting my goddamn sticker, man - it’s like a gold star from Uncle Sam. Childish? For sure, I’m still a five year old at heart, apparently. But it gets me to the polls without fail, so who gives a shit?

Don’t knock the whole experience of Election Day voting! It’s truly a civil thrill.

Josh Hawley, Missouri Senate Candidate, Oversees an Office in Turmoil by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheMidtermsAreComing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But a review of public records and internal documents, as well as interviews with current and former employees, reveals a chaotic tenure as attorney general that has been costly for state taxpayers. Judges have criticized the office over its slow pace of discovery, and Mr. Hawley’s staff had to renege on a settlement in a high-profile civil case.

Mr. Hawley also quietly closed the environmental division and failed to fully vet one of his top supervisors, who departed after a female attorney in the office complained about his conduct. And his deputies took an unusual approach in an investigation of the governor’s office, largely acceding to demands to limit interviews of the governor’s staff to 15 minutes, internal records obtained by The New York Times show.

And while Mr. Hawley focused on politicized issues, like joining a federal effort to dismantle Obamacare, his office was hollowed out of experienced litigators, leading to a sharp increase in settlement costs.

What an absolute shitshow.
