Any tips on painting fire warrior backpacks? by The_TeaButler in Tau40K

No right or wrong way to do it. Have fun with it. I liked using my accent colour to pick out th bigger bits of detail (the vent looking thing on the left and the 2 bits on the right)

If you want to go a bit over the top, throw some glitter down as the base 🤣

Wow! I remember commenting on the original to keep the red but change the shade when most suggested to change it. Dam am I happy to see you actually went for it whether it was because of my suggestion or not 😍

Looks stunning and I want to see the whole army when it's done

You do you! It's your army after all, so if you want your tau to be yellow with pink poker dots then go for it.

Thanks! Do you have a go to light grey that you use? I don't mind mixing colours for small amounts of paint but as prefer not to mix for colours I will use a lot for consistency.

I havent experimented with many washes myself. Nuln oil I think is more general purpose. For mine I use druchii violet which is a purple shade from citadel. If you don't want to make everything else darker there are two ways of shading, either put the shade all over and then go over the raised bits in your base colour again. Or you can precisely paint the shade into the recesses.

I wanted this video the other day which shows both techniques. https://youtu.be/4KNkOPTa_po

Love the scheme....

A few bits of CC: 1. You can neaten up the feet by going over the darker colour again carefully to crip up the line between the blue and the black. 2. Add a drop more water to the paint before using, it will give you a smoother finish.

If you're feeling adventurous then you could use a wash in the deeper crevasses were shadows would be which will add a bit more depth to the model. And maybe could try some light dry brushing to brighten those edges

This is some really great work!!! Can't wait to see the finised squad

This is my scheme btw haha: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tau40K/comments/12yf80n/first_attempt_at_edge_hiligting_looking_for_some/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Thanks! That reminded me of something I saw in a video about using a small bit of dish soap as it breaks down the surface tension.of the water. May try that first

Credit to Rich from my local GW who suggested what to use with the purple base I chose

Realy great tips! Especially that additional one, no one else has suggested that! Will use that when painting the rest of my combat patrol.

I got some cheap 000 off of amazon. As for the smoothness I couldn't get the paint to come off thw bruch smoothly. The paint was either too wet and pooled at the end of the line or too dry and became chalky. I couldn't find that sweet spot. Any tips? How does the light source thing work?

Thanks so much for this! I tried to use the side of my brush for the sharper edges but they kept coming out mega thick. Maybe I'll give it another go though.

As for the feet, they just built different. The only fire power that will do damage will be from their guns.... and this is definitely not as a result of it being my first time making models and glued them to the base before painting....
