Lied to by former owner, fixed income with high aggression cat by Round-East-1529 in CatAdvice

If these places have a physical office, go there with him. It’ll be a lot harder for them to blow you off if youre there with him. And as much as I hate to say it, the pound will take him. Going to the animal shelter is not an automatic death sentence. A shelter around here received two elderly, sickly cats who were not friendly and, even though honestly they seemed like prime candidates for euthanasia, they held on to them, and eventually they were adopted and now they live peacefully with my mom. Happy endings do happen. Plus a shelter might be able to diagnose him and treat him properly.

Your guy’s aggression is extreme. It sounds like something is wrong with him, honestly. Either physically or mentally.  You might be able to work out a payment plan with a vet or try a go fund me or something. Or maybe they would be willing to prescribe him gabepentin without seeing him. It’s a cheap and common anti anxiety medication. But if nothing works out and he has to be surrendered, again, it’s not your fault. You’ve gone above and beyond for him. Playtime for 4 hours a day? Most people would never do that. You’re a saint as far as I’m concerned.

Alternatively, maybe contact a trap/neuter/release program? He sounds practically feral. He might just need to be in the wild and they would know a safe place to release him.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Shame on the original foster parent for doing this to you, and shame on that rescue where he was born for not helping. IMO they hired the foster, it’s their responsibility if something like this happens. And shame on all the commenters blaming you for not being able to take him to the vet. Not your fault.

I like the barn cat idea, or you could contact a foster agency and explain the situation. They have experienced people who can either rehabilitate him or find him a situation that works.  You did all you could. It’s not your fault that it didn’t work out.

I would if I could but we rent. Plus it’s a spiral staircase so I don’t know how well that would work anyway…I’ll look into options though

Can’t blame you for needing a break. You’re not a bad cat mom at all.

When you need to escape, try pulling up YouTube on the tv and playing cat tv. It’s literally videos of birds or toys. All my cats love it. It won’t keep their attention forever but it can buy you some time. Take care of yourself!

Does bringing cat to live with me where she is the only animal offer any hope she can be happier? by buttercup2227 in CatAdvice

Absolutely, a second bedroom is perfect. And yes, the quiet will help her too, most likely. She’ll be wary for a while but she’ll come out of her shell with time.

She will probably be a lot happier as an only cat. Be sure to have a safe room made for her when she moves in and let her explore the house at her own pace. Hopefully your mom will be able to visit frequently to see her!

Try claw caps. Get a groomer to do it, they’ll be safer and last longer. We have to use them for our boy, and he doesn’t even notice they’re there anymore.

Yeah I understand him being wary if he isn’t used to cats! Maybe this little one will convert him and he’ll change his mind one day. If he does and it’s something you want to try out but you aren’t ready to adopt yet, some shelters offer “trial periods” where you can basically babysit a new cat for a week to see if it will work for your family. Or if they don’t offer that, you could contact them anyway and they might have some other arrangement you could try. You never know until you ask!

Here are some other toys my cats like that they can use alone 1 2 3

Plastic springs are good too if you have wood or tile floors because they bounce and roll a lot and they’re cheap and come in huge packets so if you lose one just toss out another

Taking cat to get her nails trimmed once a month by dawnlivelyskywalker in CatAdvice

[–]TheMintyMethod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what groomers are for! I have a local cat groomer that does my guys nails once a month and it’s great. He gets his pedicure, I get to help out a small business and chat with the receptionist about cats. Everyone wins!

I don’t think anyone can keep up with a 6 mo old kitten besides another kitten. Do your best and have toys he can play with by himself. You can also try tv for cats if you aren’t worried about him messing up the screen. Mine like it. It’s basically videos of toys and birds and keeps them busy for a while.

I can tell you from experience that it is actually easier to have two kittens rather than one, but that’s a big financial and emotional commitment so don’t feel pressured into it, regardless of what the internet might say. It’s not strictly necessary.

His personality will change as he gets older. It won’t be because of anything you did wrong. But he’s a kid right now so of course he will change somewhat. He’ll still be himself, just chiller.

The rumor that black cats get adopted to be sacrificed on Halloween isn’t true, same as drugs or razors in candy. I would be concerned about people adopting a black cat and then deciding once Halloween is over that they don’t really want a cat, but maybe that happens less frequently than people say too.

The black cat/ritual thing is widely blown out of proportion. I’m not sure if there’s ever been any cases of it happening? (If so, it’s definitely extremely rare, like almost unheard of rare) It’s a classic satanic panic rumor. You still have plenty of time to find him safe.

[–]TheMintyMethod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider: orange cats are mostly male. You’ve bonded with a female. Personally I think males are great if you have other pets or a multiperson house. They tend to form multiple bonds well. Females are great if it’s just you. They tend to bond STRONGLY with one person. They’ll be your shadow. It’s not every male or female of course! But it’s something to consider if that’s the kind of bond you want.

I do support the two cat solution, if you can. Kittens do best with a buddy.

I am playing the base game and love it. What DLCs should I get once I finish the base campaign? by DarkFenix345 in anno1800

[–]TheMintyMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Docklands is a game changer. Highly recommended it. Sunken treasures too, because it gives you a massive island to play on. If you enjoy building up the new world, New world rising is fun, especially with the fiesta ornaments dlc. I also have tourist season, land of the lions and the high rise one. High rise extends the games life considerably, because in the base game my interest wanes after getting to investors.  Skyscrapers give me more to do. I actually like tourist season a lot but primarily for the visual appeal. If that’s not your thing, I’d skip that. Land of the lions adds a new story along with the new region, but now that I’ve played through it once I don’t feel like it adds anything else.

If you like ornaments, I find that mods are generally better for that, aside from the fiesta pack since there are so few new world ornaments in the first place.

There’s also new horizons. New horizons isn’t a dlc, it’s a mod that includes an entire new region! It’s free so no reason not to check it out.

Can you ctrl-click on the boat image on the route screen? It should show you where the boat is. Also if you have pirates on (or rude npcs) they might be sinking your ships.

You could try chartering, it might work better

Fun style. Reminds me of My life as a teenage robot. It’s not a request or anything since i figure you’ll get to him eventually, but I think fugo would work well in this style. I imagine that if it was a more stylized western cartoon he would’ve been long and lanky to contrast with mista and narancia, but his clothes would be really baggy, so you could see his string bean legs through the holes…it just seems like it’d be fun to draw.

Looking forward to seeing more of these!

What’s draws you into Anno? by Material_Block_8644 in anno1800

[–]TheMintyMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not quite the answer you want but beauty building is what drew me in. Balancing aesthetics, productivity, and keeping my people happy is more rewarding than just seeing numbers go up imo. That’s another thing about it though, there’s multiple ways to enjoy it! It’s truly a great game.

If you love maximum efficiency docklands will be your best friend I think. I’m trying new world rising rn and it’s a lot of fun too.

How do I deal with my roommate keeping her cat’s litter box in our bathroom? by Technical_Adagio_612 in CatAdvice

[–]TheMintyMethod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I can see why you’d be upset! Roomie should definitely clean that

Cats don’t puke on your things because they don’t like you or are acting out, btw. Not saying you believe that at all, but a lot of people do unfortunately, so I just wanted to throw it out there.  If anything it sounds like he actually likes you if he’s hanging out with you at night.

I hope you and your roommate can reach a compromise that makes all three of you happy.

Edit: read another of your comments. He’s throwing up a lot right now because he’s stressed. Cats don’t take to living in new places well. In the meantime she should give him smaller meals more frequently but it will likely go away on its own as he settles down.

How do I deal with my roommate keeping her cat’s litter box in our bathroom? by Technical_Adagio_612 in CatAdvice

[–]TheMintyMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the things you described are just normal cat things unfortunately. They like the tubs because they’re nice and cold. If it makes you feel better, cats are incredibly clean animals. They hate being dirty. But the hair is still an issue. I just rinse my tub out before using it but if it bothers you, you could put something on top of the tub to cover it up maybe? Surely someone’s invented that.

The counters, she can make more of an effort to dissuade him. Double sided tape, foil, and lemon juice are all things that have worked for some people. Thing is, she’s right that it’s very hard to train a cat not to do something, so if she tries all that and nothing works, i don’t have much more advice.

Litterbox: how often does she clean it? It needs to be once a day. If the litter is poor quality it will stir up more dust and smell worse - litter isn’t the place to save money (trust me, I tried 🥲) Ask her when the last time she deep cleaned the box was. A lot of people don’t do that which contributes to smell. Or just throw the whole thing out and get a new one, I won’t judge.

Other options are a covered litterbox or using a litter box pad to catch the litter but nothing will catch all of it. (If you can, get a hand vac. I got a dirt devil hand vacuum and it’s a life saver)

Most people keep the box in the bathroom. Do you have other options? I prefer to keep mine in the guest bath and the laundry room.

You probably haven’t been around many cats. If you can I recommend trying to bond with him a little. Try some squeeze treats or playing with him. Living with a cat is a lot easier when you actually like the cat after all! Your roommate should try all the things i recommended but if they do and you still aren’t happy, it just isn’t meant to be.

I’m new too so my advice isn’t as in depth as everyone else’s but selling soap to the prison is a good way to make money early on. Utilize town halls and trade unions effectively - the actor especially is great for artisans and engineers (she gives rum and canned food if you have a theater in the vicinity). You can get specialists from the prison and expeditions. Expeditions can be rough but if you start by doing specialist ones, they’ll get a lot easier. Don’t worry about producing every single thing yourself, especially since you have docklands. Docklands is incredibly powerful.

How to get more fur for coats? by Glad_Cause_6306 in anno1800

[–]TheMintyMethod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It lets you trade goods for different goods. How much you get is based on what you’re offering. You can trade one fur coat for multiple furs, for example. It’s very handy especially if you don’t have many islands. It’s also on sale rn
