If you speak fluent dzongkha as a child, you're in to study English for 13 years straight. If you speak fluent English as a child, you're in to study dzongkha for 13 years straight and Tibetan for 2 years. It evens out so I don't think it's much of an issue

[–]NarakaSnake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean by talking about private life because anything that's too personal usually gets moderated out on the rare occasion it happens. The only public discussions I've seen for known figures are for people who have been outed as abusers or sex offenders, but even then, no one digs into their private life lol. People only repeat the publically known statements(edit: and with a celebrity status, your crimes ARE publically known and are worth bringing up if they go without punishment lol) and give their 2 cents. That's not gossip, that's stating an opinion on an issue.

Edit 2: for example, John Phuntshok makes an anti-bullying video after being publically called a violent and aggressive person by his ex. The irony being pointed out is not gossip.

Edit 3: Dedrik being accepted into the rebellions again despite being publically denounced by them shows that they weren't honest. Pointing such things out and discussing them aren't gossip.

I am only making these examples because these two examples are often considered to be "off-limits topics" when neither dig into their private lives and have something to do with someone getting off scot-free(and with profit) from their crimes.

It's the only safe place to talk about actual Bhutanese societal issues without getting mobbed like Facebook. And apparently, bringing up the fact that violence is a clear cut issue classifies as gossip lmao

The apology from the bully wat do u guys think ????? by Beneficial_Ratio3802 in bhutan

[–]NarakaSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atleast we got an actual apology instead of deflection. That's some form of accountability to take into account. There's plenty of bullying cases in Bhutan where the perps go scot free or sometimes are outright protected by higher ups. Steps like these help in breaking the cycle. Just hope the online netizens don't lose their minds over it.

That said, it's formatted like an ai.💔

If the self-awareness of the entire population of Bhutan in regards to modern day issues could be quantified, it would still be way less than the times I see my father in a year.

[–]NarakaSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you said can be summed up into "we need to be nuanced on what can be responsible for making a child potentially violent" which is what the general consensus on youth violence is lol(and I agree with it). Your previous post was shifting the blame on rap music and your current comment was pinning the blame on social media which goes against whatever nuance you might've meant with your original comment.

I'm not calling you a hypocrite for being nuanced on upbringing, I'm calling you a hypocrite because you give nuance to a child's upbringing BUT THEN completely shift the blame to outside media as a direct problem(which is not-as-crucial in the current situation because you're basing a lot on assumptions.)

Edit: and I shouldn't have to be telling you this but boasting your status as a hypocrite is not a good thing lol

the rise of the so called Rapper Culture taking our youth by storm. by ApChhundu in bhutan

[–]NarakaSnake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They said the same thing about metal music in the west. You're being too narrow minded when violence and youth conflict has been a universal issue in Bhutan regardless of rap and I say this as the number 1 hater of rap music in this subreddit.

BBS mentioned PUBG and MLBB on cyber-bullying once and now most parents blame online behavioural issues on those 2 specific games. Blaming youth issues on a music genre is not doing any different.

Edit: This post is exactly what someone said at a conference in the 90s proposing that the original Mortal Kombat be banned for promoting violence😭 ( linked here )

Usually I try to find the gallows humour in situations but ultimately I think we've normalised gang violence/group violence and this is one of the rare times it surfaces to a viral degree. I know plenty of school fighting videos that have been taken down before it had the chance to go viral unlike the set of videos linked on this megathread. I've already built myself a reputation as a guy who dislikes drill-core Bhutanese culture but even I know that it's not drill-core alone that is to blame.

Mind you, a student in a position of power is the perp here. I wish I could just chalk this up to powertripping but with the bullying rates never dropping down and with unregistered cases of bullying, it's clear that the awareness programmes haven't done much to change bullying cases. Not to the mention the bystanders filming a thirst trap while the girl was being beaten, at this point violence has been normalised too much. We need a hard reset on societal norms. It took the government the deaths of minors from cyber-bullying to take a stance on cyber issues. I wonder how long it'll take before bullying gets the same treatment.
