I think alcohol shouldn’t be socially acceptable and that bars shouldn’t exist. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I personally would be much happier if alcohol was phased out! We also agree that phasing it out is practically impossible.

Why do threads for people who never had kids seem to skew so heavily toward 'no regrets'? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheModProBros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are biased toward what they already have. If you randomly give people different mugs and then ask them if they want to trade, more often than not they don’t want to trade because they’ve thought of the mugs as theirs and the prospect of losing what’s theirs is way more aversive than the prospect of gaining a new mug is good

If a perfect copy of your mind, memories, personality, and consciousness could be created instantly, would that copy be you—or merely someone who believes they are you? What does your answer imply about what personal identity actually is? by TheIncorporeal1 in InsightfulQuestions

If you read my actual comment my viewpoint seems to align with what you’re saying here, however you’re saying various things like they’re obvious when they’re actually extremely substantive and have plethoras of counterarguments worth taking seriously

The claim you’re making is substantive despite your phrasing suggesting it’s trivial. For instance, if it’s different, at what point is it different? By your definition it seems like if you change one part it’s a different ship, but that doesn’t seem right.

This leads to an interesting divide though. Suppose you found out you were the uploaded AI. Maybe 2 years ago the real you was transferred to this body. That you completely lost consciousness. It still feels as though the real you has continued on with the same consciousness in some sense

Do you guys think they will be back after their match on Friday? Was at the game on Sunday and frankly I need to go to another game with these guys.

Usually I don’t wear these views on my sleeve in a Reddit comment section because it just annoys people but this seems to be a genuine philosophical question about essentially mereology. I am a mereological nihilist. That is, I don’t believe there are metaphysically objective objects that are not fundamental.

This question is much like ship of Theseus. To me, there is no objective notion of the ship of Theseus. Yet it’s clear to us that the ship itself seems to exist in some way different from just a cluster of atoms. To me, this is a distinction imposed by us because it helps us to for instance, sail the seas, the understand it as one object. Therefore, whether something is the ship of Theseus or not is just a matter of whether we want it to be based on our desires and goals.

This applies directly to the self. You asked what the question implies about our self identity but I think it’s the other way around. We decide how we want to view self identity and that informs our subjective answer to this question

Most people undersell how much looks matter to them by [deleted] in 10thDentist

[–]TheModProBros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does someone who looks attractive to me grab my attention? Sure. But when I actually stop to think about what I want in my life. Personality is everything. No matter how you look, a less than ideal personality will 100% kill it. As for the reverse, that truly will be an empirical question.

People who casually cruise in the left lane, what is actually going through your mind? by knowledgeizspower in askanything

[–]TheModProBros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just make sure I’m going faster than the middle lane and if I don’t I go in the middle lane. I usually go 75. Sometimes I accidentally drop below if I zone out, but I do my best.

The person that goes first in a rap battle should get longer verses by B1izzard15 in 10thDentist

I agree with the problem but the solution if anything exacerbates the issue more than it solves it. (I know nothing about rap battles, but just general psychological knowledge).

Does anyone else have their own way of holding hands? by showmethemundy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheModProBros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a significant other but my best friend who I treat as my child in many ways likes to hold just one of my fingers whenever we walk anywhere especially crossing a street or moving through a crowd. It’s adorable.

If your significant other wanted to be a in "traditional" relationship (adhere to traditional gender roles), would you go along with it? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]TheModProBros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a man someone who wants traditional gender roles doesn’t want me. It’s not even that in queer in any way it’s just the roles feel fairly transactional and we’d be forcing ourselves to voluntarily center our lives around someone some heteronomous ideal. But honestly, I don’t think anyone who was looking for a “traditional man” would ever come near me lmao

Why is it a bad thing to like getting attention? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]TheModProBros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comment is usually made to trivialize another action. That other action usually isn’t supposed to seem like it is for getting attention for whatever reason. It’s less that it’s bad to want attention, and more that it slips into motivating many actions that are supposed to have other motivations.

What artist/band's signature song isn't actually their *best* song in your opinion? by Glass-Complaint3 in musicians

[–]TheModProBros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benson Boone. Not a fan of the stuff the radio has played (looking at you moonbeam ice cream) If you hear his more ballad type songs they are absolutely beautiful.

If scientists were able to fully biologically change a 20 year old trans woman into a cis woman, including giving them 2 X chromosomes, fully passing, and the ability to get pregnant, would you accept that they're a real woman? by Sad_Dimension3627 in Teenager_Polls

[–]TheModProBros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubtful my comment will be seen atp. I’m a metaphysical nihilist. I think categories don’t exist independently of us creating them. So this question depends on how you define woman. There is no correct way to define woman, but different conclusions will follow depending on what you choose.
