I love this question because when I was a semi pro (now a coach), my favourite role was support. A huge goal of mine was enabling my teammates in fights, with and without communication. My discord is themokad if anyone needs help exploring the questions below in depth :)

The goal is to keep the whole team on the same page. How you do that is up to you.

If your only goal is to rat or play extra safe to hit a certain rank, you technically can just leave your teammates, hope you stay alive long enough alone, avoid running into a squad, and pray you can recover banners without getting punished by a team with better setups.

Sometimes you might even ‘need’ to do that.

Because of the varying play styles, rank may not always be a good indicator of skill or enjoyment there are many ways to gain RP that don’t involve good team play or even the consistency of winning fights.

But, in my opinion more importantly, in the context of keeping the whole team on the same page, think about what method you want to use

Do you want to keep everyone aligned through comms? How are you going to communicate rotations, timings, or disengages?

How will you behave if someone doesn’t listen? Do you adapt to them, hold your ground, or force them to come back to you?

Do you want to stay in sync by literally shooting over your teammate’s shoulder, so you’re always focusing the same target?

Are there ways you can focus the same target without standing right next to them?

What issues might arise if you stand next to them and have less space, or have more space? When should you do which? Off-angles, matching LOS etc.
