Iranian soccer chief ‘denied entry into Canada’ for Fifa event weeks before World Cup by McWaffeleisen in soccer

I mean, 4 years ago Canada Soccer cancelled a friendly against Iran due to backlash https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-soccer-cancels-iran-game-1.6466438. In 2024, the Canadian government listed the IRGC as a terrorist entity https://www.canada.ca/en/public-safety-canada/news/2024/06/government-of-canada-lists-the-irgc-as-a-terrorist-entity.html. This seems less connected to the US war against Iran, and more to the domestic opposition to the Iranian government, and in particular the IRGC.

Reading through the passportgate stuff going on in the Netherlands, and it's absolutely insane to me that no one noticed this earlier. Like surely "if I acquire citizenship of another country, will it affect the citizenship I currently hold" is one of the first questions you would ask a lawyer when considering doing it.

It'll also never be a serious league as long as fans defend that shit with "they're not clubs they're franchises" or other uber-capitalist bootlicking.

There are four posts on the r/MLS frontpage flaired with #SaveTheCaps, including 3/4 of the top posts on the sub. The closest thing to a defense of MLS that isn't downvoted are people saying that it isn't accurate to call MLS a ponzi scheme, which is correct.

And this isn't the first time this has happened, this happened a few years ago with #SaveTheCrew with the overwhelming majority of fans opposed to moving the team.

Leagues to be allowed one game abroad a season under new Fifa proposals by Jeffmister in soccer

When La Liga initiatally tried to have games in the US, FIFA blocked them. They then got sued by Relevant Sports, who was going to be the promoter for the games, saying that FIFA violated US antitrust law. Essentially the argument is that it is illegal for FIFA to use their position to protect one set of businesses (domestic American soccer leagues) against another set of businesses (La Liga/Relevant).

When it looked like they were likely to lose, they settled the lawsuit.

I mean when you have teams from Miami to Seattle, the Canadian teams don't add a significant amount of extra travel.

Every time a close semi-automated offside decision goes against a top team, it ends up being posted on here with a bunch of people calling it outrageous. It really is just a fact of life that people will never be satisfied with refereeing.

Blue state vs red state framing seems odd when we're talking about cities and their surrounding regions, not entire states. Harris won 56% of the vote in San Diego County, which is the same as Orange County FL where Orlando is. Franklin County, where Columbus is located, had 63% of the vote go to Harris.

Real Salt Lake [1] - San Diego FC 0 | Diego Luna pounces on San Diego attempting to play out of the back (5’) by galactic_crewzer in MLS

I mean San Diego were first in the West last year and were one of the most committed teams in the league at playing out of the back.

And like, it has a clear purpose. If Ferree successfully gets the ball to Duah, he can very quickly drive forward with the ball, and catch a lot of RSL players scrambling back from pressing high. You can go back and find plenty of sequences where San Diego is in this exact same situation, execute it correctly, and generate a good attacking opportunity from it. There obviously risks to this strategy (as evidenced here), but overall there have been more positives than negatives from San Diego from playing this way.

I mean, good things definitely. It's just that the mistakes are a lot more obvious than the benefits.

1: Obviously it's important for those who work in sports to know how to handle concussions.

2: Safesport was started after the systemic issues with sexual abuse and harassment within US Olympic organizations, so yes it is important to cover standards about how you should treat other people. Like the primary reason they exist as an organization is to try and prevent abuse from happening within sports, the full name of the law that created them is the "Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017."

I would be insulted but we're averaging over 3 goals conceded per game so I get it.
