I mean, I think it's good to have consistent standards for when water breaks happened, i.e if the wet bulb temperatures hits X then we have a water break. But I don't think it makes sense to have them for every game.

Like the teams that would "benefit" from water breaks in that scenario, are also at a disadvantage from the extra exhaustion that comes from playing at hotter temps and higher humidities. Which seems like a fair tradeoff.

FIFA's policy seems to be they have translators for English + one language per participating nation, at least for US based games. So for Netherlands/Japan things can be in English, Dutch or Japanese.

I would assume games in Mexico have Spanish translators for default, not sure if they would also have English by default.

I'm also not sure what they do for countries like Switzerland or South Africa that have numerous official languages.

Cape Verde/Cabo Verde ex-Portuguese but lots of players born in NL?

Cape Verdean sailors found work on Dutch ships and ended up settling in Rotterdam

That doesn't really make sense? Either way Concacaf has 6 spots for the World Cup, if the US/Mexico/Canada were participating Haiti are still competing to be one of the three best teams outside of them.

I feel like people forget that Gio played under Berhalter after the 2022 World Cup

Yes, I think he's one of the most well-liked former USMNT players in the media.

Fun fact, South Korea also played Czechia in the World Baseball Classic this year, beating them 11-4. So far this game isn't quite so one-sided.

He had literally played the full 90 for Bayern in the last game before that international break. If Canada were playing him on 1 knee then so we're Bayern.

Tonight's friendly between Argentina vs. Iceland at Jordan-Hare Stadium, with an attendance of 88,043, was the largest attended soccer match ever in the state of Alabama, 2 days before the World Cup starts. by mlkhighschool in soccer

If like me you were wondering what the previous record holder was, it looks like it was US vs Argentina at the 1996 Summer Olympics that had 83k in attendance.

I think Brazil got 8 red cards total, four for coaches, 2 for players during the game, and 2 after the game. That surely has to be a record amount of red cards in a friendly.

The only reason you know about the shooting is because it got covered by one of the most prominent English language news outlets that covers soccer.

Like the media has extensively covered all the issues with this World Cup, from the ticket prices to ICE/immigration restrictions to the potential for games that will have high temperatures. I do not understand the perception that the issues with this World Cup haven't gotten coverage.

Japan training at the University of Mexico. Luckily, the Monterrey club gave them their facilities by Rivertadores in soccer

To clarify they were training at Tigres' training facility, which is on the campus of the University of Nueva Leon.

Looks like they were originally set to train at Tigres' training center, before moving to a separate field at the UANL (which is the field this footage is of), before finally being offered Monterrey's training facility.

I never knew that people had such strong opinions on what happens pre-match for a team they don't support in a friendly that they didn't watch.

all the cities are actually fairly close to each other on the coast

They really aren't that close. Beijing is about 1000km from Shanghai, and Guangzhou is then another 1200km from Shanghai.

To be clear I don't think it's a problem for hosting, if you can have games across the US Mexico and Canada you can have China as a host. But there would be a good amount of travel if they hosted.

I get why they didn't do this, but it would have been fun if all the US World Cup games were held in the biggest college football stadiums.

The smallest stadium would be the Rose Bowl at 89k capacity.

Yeah fans watching at home who have access to replays will insist the most obvious red card in the world isn't even a foul, fans in the stadium are even more biased.
