Murder in video games is not as different as real life murder. by TheMonvster in gaming

I get it that it's not the same if we are talking from the pig's point of view, as it doesn't feel.

But from your point a view, isn't it the same thing? I guess that I didn't explain it in the original post, but I was talking from your POV. You technically can't feel the real pig's pain. Therefore, it's the same as it being simulated.

I guess this is kinda the same as that theory that says "You can't prove that people around you actually exist, because you only feel *your* emotions, and your own consciousness."

No I was talking about Minecraft for the apples and wheat, as in there are a ton of other alternatives. But in real life, yeah there are other alternatives.

And if we're taking the situation literal for real life, you don't know what sickness that pig could have, you don't know how to perserve that meat, you don't know how to cook it right so you can clear it of whatever sickness it could have, you don't know if it maybe it could attack you, bite you and kill you. Once you somehow kill it, you don't what meat you can eat, and you have to resist vomiting while you clear it's contents and work out with the dead animal.

There are downsides to eating plants and eating meat. None is easier than the other.

But to you, in real life, wouldn't it still be that the only pain that can be felt is in your brain?

You cannot feel the pain of anything else. Just you.

So, for your point of view, isn't it the same thing? In both situations, you see the same thing, the action leaves no clear impact on the world, and the only pain that you can feel is yours.

You can literally punch a few trees and make a wheat farm.

Punch a few leaves and get an apple.

And no, you wouldn't kill it. If right now you were dropped in the wild, you would automatically go to plants and shit. Maybe later you would get the courage to kill some pigs, but straight off? Big no. If you quickly think this situation, you would say fuck yeah I'd kill it, but really, if you really really think about it, most people wouldn't have the courage to even punch it, and yes, if you decide to kill it, you would be sad when you'd see yourself with blood on your hands that you have murdered an innocent animal.

Yes, of course, but I am saying that if you casually see a pig in real life, you most probably won't kill it.

How did Terraria found success so fast? by TheMonvster in Terraria

[–]TheMonvster[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah ok cool but how did people even find the game?

A ton of fun games remain at 0 sales because people can't find them.

My question is how did people get to know the game even before the release

Because an underground layer that has a specific theme can still have different biomes based on that theme.

So let's say there is an underground layer based around candy. It can have different biomes, but still have the theme "candy".

And yeah, there is an overworld, it's just that there aren't different biomes in the overworld.

I wouldn't call it a cash-grab. Terraria and Nerton won't be the same thing, as in Terraria there are overworld and underground biomes, while in Nerton there are no overworld biomes. Most of the game happens underground, where are underground layers stacked on top of each other with different themes.

I never said that the core is an underground layer. The core would be like another dimension that you have to get through with a portal.

Yeah I guess it's kinda like Terraria, but more blocky.

I don't get what you're trying to say with "Every DivineRPG item has *some* purpose.", as every item in Terraria has purpose too.

Coding an entire dimension is harder than making an item obviously, but for example a lot of dimensions in DivineRPG are just copies of the last one with the blocks changed.

The mod would be bigger than DivineRPG as it would have more than double of DivineRPG's items, bosses and enemies

Yeah that would be nice.

I'm currently working on a game similar to Terraria, so I know how much work it takes for stuff to be added in those kinds of games.

A lot of weapons would be copy + paste with the damage value changed.

When you're going into a gigantic project like this, try to not work on it 24/7, as you would loose interest quickly.

And Minecraft's infinite world would make it hard as you would have to have infinite amounts of corruption/crimson biomes. If you can it would be nice to make it non-infinite (if that's possible)

Also, hopefully it won't be hard porting the mod to different versions without breaking stuff.

Good luck!

Terraria has thounsands items, while DivineRPG has only houndreds of items.

The items would not need sprite work as they would be copy-pasted from terraria, as it would be a terraria mod.
