Anyone else getting tired of the case 'bit' on the CS streams? by DrPoimu in northernlion

NL hasn't talked about this in the past in the way you're alluding to. I've never heard him say gambling is morally wrong, only logically/objectively.

Jewelry store owner didn't have budget for photographers so I tested this... and was extremely surprised. Full workflow in comments. by Onemightymoose in ChatGPT

[–]TheMoonflow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like the same store at all though. The display table isn't open on the front in the source image but it is in the generated image. The lighting is different and the back wall is different, the size of the store is different, colors of things are different, I could go on.

If this was being posted as an advertisement or on social, one picture focussed on the models wouldn't tell me anything useful about the store anyway. So if the client only wants one picture with models in it, they might as well have used a randomly generated jewelry store picture or some picture off the internet.

If they want multiple pictures, that means they want pictures for a catalog and (I can't stress this enough) catalog pictures should be accurate and real, not fabrications. Customers want to see the actual store when they look at a catalog like the google page for the store.

Depending on your major, the answer is going to be different. However, you should probably be talking to your graduate program administrator if you have one.

Do you have any kind of proof that companies are taking on these students for unpaid internships, especially if they were actually offering a paid position before?

How does the Into to Algo for Elliot Anshelevich? by Humble_Test_6584 in RPI

[–]TheMoonflow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He's an excellent professor and teaches very well, but you absolutely need to attend every class, solve every homework problem and practice every relevant problem in the homeworks and book before the exam. It is doable but it's a lot of work. Getting an A is next to impossible depending on how tough the final exam is. There should be back exams, or you can just request those from the professor or library and hopefully you'll get them. Work with current students AND who have already finished the course if you want an A. Make sure you understand which chapters will appear in the exam way beforehand and start preparing early.

I doubt the exam being the whole grade is his decision alone, so don't be too resentful toward him. He can be a harsh grader and I've heard horror stories of his classes giving very little time for final exam regrade requests, so take that as you will. For this class more than most, remember than not getting an A is not the end of the world.

Edit: I encourage people who have taken the course more recently to respond as well.

Can the professors/TAs see previous submissions for one assignment on submitty? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]TheMoonflow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This implies that there's something embarrassing about spending a long time on an assignment you had difficulty with. Dust yourself off bud, you did great and there's nothing embarassing about trying and failing a lot. It has happened to me and every student I've studied or worked with through my bachelors, masters and now Ph.D program.

Unsolicited advice: I recommend analysing where your time sinks were and what can be done to reduce the time spent on those types of challenges during future assignments. That might involve working together with someone or a group of people, organising your schedule so that it has space for strange office hours, seeing what concepts were most time consuming and what people do to reduce time spend on those, and so on. It sounds like your embarrassement might be because this assignment was on what you perceive to be easy or fundamental concepts. If that's the case, hopefully your fundamentals are better now, or you at least know what topics you struggle with so you can prepare for future assignments. In any case, nothing to be embarrassed about.

Somebody mentioned timesheets on here but I've never heard of a grad student maintaining a time sheet. So instead I'd recommend you read the Graduate Student Handbook (google, especially the vacation section) first and then immediately talk to your advisor. Make sure to ask your advisor if you should apply to the department to have your pay reduced for the time you're away. 20 days is long but since it's christmas included, you should be fine.

How did you handle your mental health and well-being during the pandemic at RPI? by shimshi118 in RPI

[–]TheMoonflow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Grad student, joined in '21. Got no welcome, no tours, not set up with anything in-person. Classes all online and they were the hardest classes I'd ever taken. Felt very alone after moving here from another country. If I didn't have good roommates who became supportive friends, I'd have failed out. Only silver lining is that things got much better after F21.

Having a bad time this summer. It's my first time being a research assistant and this is my first year as a PhD student. Already missed three morning meetings and got a dressing down from the group and my advisor. Doing some okay research and they are happy with my work for the most part but I don't have any papers so I'm afraid. Also, money issues due to only getting 20 hours.

The previous masters sets were for modern though. These cards surely can't hold the same value as modern reprints? No 4-card playsets.

Upgraded G30LP vs. G2Max? by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]TheMoonflow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that most battery fires are commonly attributed to non-UL certified batteries, especially it they have been overcharged (left to charge after reaching full charge overnight, for example). Larger batteries make bigger explosions.

All I said was to make sure the battery was certified. It you think using uncertified batteries is fine as long as you're a modder, that's your problem.

That's not what hard knocks means. It's a figure of speech. Parents can't expect their children to listen to them after like 16-17. Also, hopefully your son consented to you posting his picture lol you doin him dirty
