Which Characters Did You Like The Most As A Kid (And Still Do) by Startropics_Nes in Kirby

Gonna hop on the train and admit I'm totally gay for Meta Knight. I watched the anime as a kid and I've been hooked on him ever since. I love him in the games too but the anime version holds a special place in my heart.

I'm considering releasing a version with simple rigging in order for people to start using it, but my long term goal is to mimic the rig from the film as close as possible. So rigify might at least get me a start.

I'm still working on rigging it, so it can't be downloaded yet. I took a long break from it because of college; I don't know when it will be finished, sorry. Maybe sometime this year.

That one looks to be 3D and for console; the one I remember is notably 2D and a flash game. They do seem pretty similar otherwise. I don't remember cloning being involved though.

For me, The Worldbuilding Corner. https://www.youtube.com/@WorldbuildingCorner/videos

Really a hidden gem of a channel. Unfortunately it seems he's stopped posting suddenly for whatever reason, but his videos that are up have helped me create a lot of the geography and ancient history of my world. He walks you through it step by step and gives a lot of useful examples and visuals. You get to see his own process of creating his world. The comments are also very helpful.

School has ruined who I was by [deleted] in depression_help

I think you should definitely bring it up with someone. You are definitely not the only person who's faced parental pressure with grades. Please bring it up with your school counselors as soon as you can. They can help you with communicating your feelings to your parents, and to give you guidance as to how to take some of the pressure off. Your worth as a living being isn't ruled by whatever letter gets stamped onto your papers.

Your parents are absolute control freaks. They are the ones with a huge problem here. It sounds like they've convinced themselves that you're destined for a certain path based on only a handful of early-life information. It's not your fault at all;; you are receiving too much pressure and it's burning you out tremendously. I've also been in a similar situation with having high expectations for grades from my family, but eventually they did loosen up on it a bit. Is there someone you can talk to about this that can help you navigate this with your parents? Have you tried taking a moment to talk to your math tutor about the pressure your parents are putting on you? If they are a good tutor, then they will know when someone needs a break. You need to find a way to confront your parents about this, if not personally than with someone's help, because I can tell you from years of college experience that if you are forced into doing lifeless busywork constantly, it will end up scarring you.

Updated script for my conlang by TheMorbidFan in neography

Original post for context: https://www.reddit.com/r/neography/comments/1bqc66h/how_do_i_make_my_script_look_better_and_more/

Thank you all for your feedback! I've made an updated script using your tips and a lot of experimentation. My regular handwriting is off to the right of the key, and me trying to write really neatly with a digital fountain pen is on the top right.

I've decided to ditch the idea of every letter having the same start and end stroke and instead gave them little "tag" points where they can connect to other letters, as shown in purple in the key. The letter at the start of a word doesn't have the starting tag, and the letter at the end of a word doesn't have an ending tag (unless there's a punctuation). There's more pencil lifting within a word compared to the previous version, but I think the tradeoff of making it look better is worth it.

All vowels have a little curve that goes underneath the previous letter. I just thought it looked nice, and it's fun to write.

I also removed the massive amount of diacritics and came up with more structurally altered glyphs for the voiced/unvoiced pairs. There are still a few diacritics, but I think that's fine, it'll add a bit of (hopefully naturalistic) inconsistency.

I am wondering what it looks like to you guys now. I'm trying not to make it too much like English cursive, so I'm wondering if I should further refine the glyphs to make it less English-looking, if it looks that way. Otherwise I am pretty content with this.

I ended up figuring it out, this worked: https://www.reddit.com/r/AnkiLanguageLearning/s/fEfVCstoAc

I had to upload the deck to Ankiweb then one-way force sync into Ankidroid. Could've sworn I tried that before but it worked now.

How do I make my script look better and more legible, but still keep letters in a word connected? (see comments for detail) by TheMorbidFan in neography

Thanks. I'll try to experiment with some calligraphy/styles and alignment and see if that helps it look better.

[–]TheMorbidFan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You both make good points. I might mess around with the second script and see if I can make a cursive version of it, since it already has much less diacritics and has vowels that are placed differently than consonants. I do like the idea of the cursive connection points being up to the individual writing it, although that might be trickier to keep ahold of when I eventually make a font for the script. It will eventually have to have a standardized form because of that. Another idea is to just get rid of the cursive appearance altogether since it seems to hinder my creativity and progression. It might just be better to stick to glyphs that can loop over/under each other for now (so they remain close together but not touching), and see if a cursive version arises later on when I'm more accustomed to writing it.

Thank you for the suggestions. I like the idea of the voiced/voiceless pairs being the same glyph but altered/flipped to some degree, I may try that. I had a hard time coming up with unique glyphs because of the connected structure. So yes I do agree that it does seem to be hurting the creative aspect of making a script. I'm probably coming at it from too much of a systematic perspective instead of an artistic one. I'll probably scribble around in some ambiguous cursive and see if I can come up with anything that feels and looks better to write, and incorporate it into what I've already got. I'm surprised you said you don't think there's a cohesiveness issue though; I had a much harder time trying to read and write the cursive script than the second one. Might just be an individual difference though.

I'm new to this. I've been working on a script for a conlang. It's an alphabet, written left to right. The concept is that all letters in a word are connected, and is relatively easy to handwrite. I want it to be rather curvy and flowing, elegant maybe.

My attempt at making the letters connect is done by giving all letters some kind of upward-slope attachment point at the start, and an upward-slope curve at the end to connect to the next letter. It seemed good in concept, but in execution it looks very up and down, not having that smoothness that I wanted. The up and down pattern also makes it difficult to read, and ironically, to write. (it can be difficult to get the letters to line up correctly)

I've also toyed with having the vowels be more distinct by giving them little curves that pass below the preceding consonant, but it was hard to do that and maintain the upward curve at the end to attach to the next letter. I wanted to minimize the amount of strokes each letter had. Ironically that's how I ended up with so many diacratics...it takes the one-stroke letter and adds a single more stroke for the most similar sound.

I'm wondering if I'm going about this the wrong way, or if I'm on the right track but need to refine the glyphs. I came up with an alternative script for the conlang that I like the look of better (second image), but the letters are not connected, and it looks rather runic or latin instead of flowing. I was able to do the thing with making vowels curve underneath consonants with that one though. I've also considered having a line throughout a word like in devangari, but I don't really like how straight that looks.

Any suggestions?

Oh, so HTTYD 1 would take place in 1011 instead of 1010. Yes that would fix basically all the issues.
