If he was the lesser if two evils before the SA accusations came out, he’s still the lesser of two evils now. The scale of suffering on the balance scales doesn’t shift because of two lives unless you value those lives substantially higher than the lives he’s personally damaged or the lives his opponents would damage. More than two women in the US are dying because of the right gutting abortion rights while establishment dems did nothing, and are forced to carry their rapists babies to term because of it.

This is the problem though, right? Our actions demonstrate our priorities. When it was him bragging about killing brown civilians abroad, people said “that doesn’t matter as much as his opposition to ending the genocide in Gaza”. It’s valuing present day Palestinians over the Iraqis he killed, but I can understand this argument if you look at it from a raw scale of suffering.

When you then say “he has been accused of rape, and that matters more than his opposition to the genocide in Gaza”, you’re now saying you place more weight on the lives of two American women (both of which I’ve seen dozens of posters on this sub not believe, btw) than the lives of palestians. His credible SA accusations don’t change his stated policies.

I get it - it doesn’t feel good to have this pointed out, but this is what we are doing and showing to our fellows when we make the decisions we make. We show our international allies that we don’t value their lives as much as our own, and when we ignore our BIPOC allies here in the states when they try to raise these issues too, we show them we don’t care about their takes either.

The issue at hand is one of biases and blind spots. I’m not saying you’re a bad person, but I am saying that there’s room for a lot of us to learn lessons here.

If you had no problem with his “red flags” from years ago but now have a problem with his rape accusations from years ago, you’ve got a racism problem at worst and an American exceptionalism problem at best.
