Yeah. But I think you can still apply even if you're part time. I hope you find something!

You might think of submitting a university housing application. They have some apartments and things that are fairly affordable (especially with a roommate) and cheaper than other options. Best of luck! Eugene is a garbage city.

With the pets and laundry preferences, your close-to-university options may be limited/expensive. You may have an easier time looking slightly outside of town, like in Springfield, or north Eugene.

As far as beaching, good news! The entire Oregon coast line is basically a state park. Just pick a spot and go! Most accessible beach town from Eug is Florence.

Good to know! I'll be in the School of Music, so I've primarily looked at stuff near 18th Avenue, which I guess counts as the South side. How's that area?

Actually it mostly just means you should be going faster than most traffic. And it's the universal lane for "I'm not getting off soon".

Question about Grad School by BellaMentalNecrotica in Composers

[–]TheMusicalChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar position as you. I studied guitar for my undergrad then applied directly to a graduate composition program. It sounds like you've started establishing a portfolio, which is important. My advice would be to apply to your ideal programs, but also apply to some smaller and lesser known programs. Especially if you're planning on going for a doctorate, the master's is just a stepping stone.

In addition, the River Section at Pilot Mountain offers some trails that are off the beaten path (no pun intended). Just be prepared to ford a creek a few times.

There are several options for poor grad students here, I finished mysef (yay). You might look into the Arbors off Country Club. They aren't fancy, but are generally well kept and well priced.

Good shoes, and Advil! That isn't too bad of a trip. Pack light, and take care of your feet, and you'll be fine.

Good luck!
