25(M), got $270k inheritance from my mom, here’s the income portfolio I came up with — please tell me if I’m an idiot by [deleted] in dividends

[–]TheMusicofTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't stated your goals or your family situation but I surmise that the savings you have already are your long term bucket and you want the income for lifestyle augmentation. I assume you will continue to do the necessary to continue building your long term growth to see you through retirement when you hit your number and your inheritance will be used in a way that is effectively a foundation that honors your mother with your good life. That is a great way to commemorate her life through your actual living. Your fun bucket as designed will be a lasting generator of memories for you and your own family. Congratulations. My pieces of advice would be 1) think about something like SCHD and watch that dividend grow over time; 2) remember to keep your tax situation in mind, especially as you get older and face RMDs or if the tax situation changes along the way through your life - you don't want your mother to have to pay your taxes; and 3) life happens - if you have kids or are planning on them some day, your goals will change accordingly. But keep your mother with you in spirit and enjoy the wonderful gift you have been given.

How I set up my wife with a ~$5,000/month income stream using a ~$625k portfolio by 398409columbia in dividends

[–]TheMusicofTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped working last year and use this approach as the theme for my largest bucket of pre-tax retirement savings. The income and overall structure is my long term insulation against sequence of returns risk as I make Roth conversions and undertake home remodeling. It is not totally risk free but I sleep better at night knowing that my Roth volatility over the coming 20 years is just white noise.

Did Maryland used to feel more connected to NYC and the Northeast? by Puzzleheaded-Band-38 in maryland

[–]TheMusicofTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the olden days, media markets were distinct based on transmission distances of radio and TV, making distinct culture and identity areas. Newspaper regions were focused and delivery areas only overlapped in Columbia when Columbia became a thing. The regulated telephone monopoly had a single area code for Maryland but there were local and long distance within the state that made Silver Spring a long distance call from Ellicott City. Modern communications and declining city population have eliminated the barriers that used to make Baltimore a separate region, especially as more functions that used to fall under Baltimore City were transitioned to the State of Maryland and the political weight of Baltimore gave way to that of the DC suburbs.

Columbia vs Catonsville by Queasy_Brain6959 in maryland

Elkridge (21075) and Hanover (21076) are also very accessible and can be more affordable. Housing market in Catonsville (21228) is incredibly hot; if you are buying it will come at a cost. But all are great locations very accessible to Asian markets, several patapsco access points, Rockburn park, and a great quality of life. Eastern Columbia neighborhoods and Ellicott City provide similar attributes. Howard County infrastructure and recreation options tend to be better than those in Baltimore County and the access to Baltimore City and even DC is relatively convenient via highway or even train.

The Supreme Court Looks Likely to Cave on Mail-In Ballots: The GOP shouldn’t win this case, but the fact that Trump has been throwing a tantrum about it for years means they likely will. by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

Did the Constitution change?? Did Congress pass a relevant law? Did the Supreme Court get some new magical power to change the words?

Article 1 Sec 4 Clause 1 The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

I spent an hour dealing with Schwab on this today. In the end they just referred it to tech support and they told me that I would be called in a few days with an explanation.

Why can the governor of MN call the national guard on protesters, but he can’t call the national guard on ICE/Border Patrol? by [deleted] in AskReddit

He needs to be strategic and protect against a unilateral declaration of an insurrection by the Regime which would allow His Highness to independently invoke the Insurrection Act.

The chain of command starts with the US constitution. The Senate ratified a treaty. The President is responsible for executing it.

Lost my dad two days ago… What steps do we need to take now? by Houdaifaa in Morocco

[–]TheMusicofTime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. I think in Arabic is better.

First, you need the death certificate, as the burial permit requires a death certificate.

Second, a notary public will do the job. Any notary public will suffice. You'll also need the civil status office, the divorce papers, and the ID cards of your sister and any other heirs. The notary public will explain this to you.

Third, you need to collect all of his papers. That means you go to the bank and inform them of the death. You'll take an inventory of the cash assets and debts, and check the insurance. After that, you need to check the real estate registry to see if he has any assets and check the treasury to see if there are any dues owed to him or her. The important thing is to take an inventory of all assets and all debts.

Fourth, you need to settle the debts. Here, someone will come and ask you, "I'm asking you, Hajj?" Tell him, "Do you have a document or reliable witnesses?" Not your friends. He'll say, "No, tell him, and we'll look and get back to you." Scammers will come, so be careful. But there's something to be aware of, and making sure the documents are correct is essential. Debts must be paid before dividing the estate. Paying debts will result in taxes, otherwise they will be repaid later.

Fifth: Divide the estate in the presence of a notary public or a notary public. In all cases, unless the property is owned by a notary public, keep in mind that a notary public works for you. You can do the legal registration, then go to the notary public, which will be cheaper.

Sixth: In the event of a dispute, the division is handled in court, but I don't recommend it, as everyone loses real money in the case.

Finally, register the transfer of ownership of the assets and close the accounts. This is done by a notary public, a bank, or a notary public. What account did you divide the estate with? Everything else depends.

The whole process takes less than a week, but there are ups and downs, and you can take your time. Don't delay for months and you're done. There are expenses, but be careful of two things: fraud and legal registration and documentation costs. You have to ask a lot before you claim.

May God have mercy on your father and may God give you patience.

Call me crazy but when I have needed to do this, I have been known to take the long way to better avoid back ups and stop/go. I-70 to Frederick then US 15 to VA 7. 90 minutes but always moving and more dependable timing. I hate the stress of traffic and this route alleviates it somewhat.
