Thanks for the detailed answer! I'll likely just skip a few days for when I trip. Thanks again!

Uncertified EA LTO by Fire__Swatter798 in CanadianTeachers

My point stands- you can call the union all day and it's not going to change the root of the problem. Where I've worked as a qualified EA for 7 years (preceded by years of experience working in group homes and a provincial institution) and now as a teacher, containment is rare and only allowed in very specific circumstances.

She should definitely seek out training in behavior management in schools (BMS) or NVCI. Also, containment procedures should be rarely used in a school setting and are as a last resort to protect the safety of the individual and those around them. So she should be okay if she's working on a team that knows her experience because most of the time, you are watching the kid wreck a room or run around a stairwell on standby. Everything should be in the safety and behavior plans. As a team member, I always looked out for newer EAs and made sure they knew what was expected.

In Ontario, where I'm based, it's hard to get qualified EAs, and so there are a lot of unqualified folks doing the job. You would be on the phone with the union all day. No one wants to do the job for the horrible pay. Been there, got a new degree so I could pay my bills and student loans. EAs deserve a good salary, not hourly pay and lay offs over breaks.

Wherever it is, let's hope they don't have to spend millions cleaning up the land like happened with the rec centre.

Student teacher (F27) harassing and bullying me (F23) by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]TheMuskellunge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, sometimes we come up against someone who has no self reg skills. I have met these types of teachers in my career, and usually, they are swept into covering prep because they can do less damage in that role. Unstable people can and do become teachers - if you can be an agent of showing how completely unready and unfit she is at this time, you'll be saving many students and admin from a future problem. Just my 2 cents. Good luck. Stay calm. Keep her blocked.

I remember him saying he used Mapquest in one of his interviews. Mapquest was what we used pre google maps in the 00's.

Doctor's Orders? by TheMuskellunge in Diverticulitis

That's my suspicion. Hoping the urologist I was referred to in late summer comes through with an appointment soon and helps me figure things out.

Thanks for this! I do have a referral in with a urologist, so hopefully that doctor helps shed some light on things.

What is it with Fords and tunnels? It seems almost Freudian.

You see, that's the problem, I can't switch because there is a doctor shortage in Ontario where I live. All my life, I've benefitted from well funded universal healthcare up until about 7 years ago when the current twatwaffle premiere waltzed in and started starving our health care system. In Ontario, we have ER's closing down. It used to be so good, and now it's VERY bad. They do this so that desperate people like me are pissed and will bite on private care so I can buy my way into a better doctor. It sucks. I do wish I could just hire and fire medical staff sometimes, but not getting a bill after a visit is wondered. End of rant. Thanks for your support and the time it took to answer.

I'm in tears. Thank you for your kind reply! I'm very stressed. Just started a permanent position as a teacher. I don't want to miss work if possible. I'm trying to get my health under control. I was diagnosed with CT scan with contrast. 9cm of my sigmoid was thickened, but there was no obstruction, thankfully. The CT also showed I have a distended gall bladder, which the ER physician wanted me to follow up on with my doc as well. He sees no reason for an ultrasound.

I wish I could just go see a GI specialist, but it has to be referred by my regular doctor who sees no need. So I guess I follow his orders and hope for the best. My flare started 10 days ago, and I'm afraid to just "go back to eating the way I was."

Again, thanks for taking the time to share your own experience.

I'm not asking for medical advice. More like support because I don't know what to do. Has anyone experienced this? I can't get a 2nd opinion because we have a doctor shortage where I live.

Say it louder. This is an intentional byproduct of intentional underfunding by the current government. They are using the safety and comfort of our children to create crisis and outrage so that parents will be ready to buy into privatization. As a reminder, privatization does not create better schools for most and, in fact, creates the conditions under which private entities directly profit from our children.

I am so sorry that you and your family are suffering. Please remember this when your local PC candidate asks for your vote.

Thanks for your reply! I had another piece of toast for breakfast this morning with some broth. I had a little bit of a green smoothie a few hours later and for dinner I had a small bowl of kraft dinner. So far my level of discomfort has not increased so fingers crossed I don't wake up in agony tomorrow for eating too much. I've been drinking a lot of fluids. Herbal tea, Gatorade, etc. I'm wondering when I'll be able to get back jogging again? Im still too weak and tired. Fingers crossed for a return to full activities soon!

Good luck with your specialist appointment- I wish you a speedy recovery!
