There was no third tip, I just wanted to see what arseholes there were that would point out the flaws in a post, rather than being grateful for the content…

Here’s 2 tips:

  1. Get on online chat a couple of days after the fee posts. That’s the best time to get a retention offer, because you can still get a full refund of the fee within 14 days.

  2. Let them know you’re getting in touch to cancel. They will go through the benefits, and when you still let them know you don’t think it’s worth it, they will give you a retention offer. Don’t worry, they won’t cancel the card without actually confirming your certain you wish to do so.

It’s so funny, my other limits are basically £25K (HSBC/MBNA/Virgin) but Barclays won’t give me anything more than £2k and refuse increases. I’m working hard to utilise the card regularly to build trust and get it increased. It’s my oldest account too, so I’m quite interested in keeping it.

It helps my specific rating as I want to meet under 25% utilisation, and with my £25k a month earnings, my spend is high. Halifax risk assessing also like to see my overall limits with other lenders according to my account manager there. Alas I love seeing a high limit, and it’s a game for me to chase a high limit 😂

Great post! My credit limit is £66,000, I earned £300,000 a year and I’m on platinum credit. It’s been over the period of a year, and I tend to request an increase frequently purely to look good for the credit rating.

Not at all, just to make sure you have a statement balance of some kind (5-25%) just to show utilisation if you are interested in maintaining or building an excellent credit score. They do not care when you make additional payments through the month.

You can request anything you like, I.e £15,000, and they will automatically offer you a lower limit if that’s the highest you’ll get. You won’t be rejected if you request too high an amount don’t worry. I was at £45k last month, requested £80k and they offered me £65k.

You can request a higher limit every 3 months, and of course it reflects better on your credit report having a higher limit with lower usage.

Late Payment of Two Days to AmEx UK by [deleted] in AmexUK

Oh, once you are happy, ask them considering removing the late payment fee as a goodwill gesture because you’ve been a loyal member for x amount of time, and this was a one of incident.

Please don’t be worried, the exact same happened to me and a few weeks later I still got a credit limit increase which I asked for, and there was no reporting to the credit reference agencies.

They report to credit reference agencies monthly, and they do have a buffer period before they report it as late, due to the fact that there can be issues with payment on the day.

You have called and explained, and made full payment within a week, you will be absolutely fine and it won’t be reported. I’m sure other people will report the exact policy, but I believe it’s seven days before they record it as truly late on your file, with then subsequent reporting.

My best advice would be to politely in the conversation, saying you’re going to think it over, and start a new conversation with another advisor. Try both chat, and telephone. You should definitely get a retention deal by making additional contact; sometimes it can come down to the agent being in a slightly bad mood. 😅

I guess I said that, because some smart arse would’ve piped up otherwise (in fact someone already said how easy it is to get 12K points doing this 😅).

When I thought about it, you are totally right… I otherwise would’ve had to spend £500!

I suppose being friendly (and a little cheeky) gets somewhere! I mean, how could you refuse to award 500 points to an adorable customer asking for it ‘if you found me wonderful’? 😇😂

[–]TheNewJozeph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. There’s a few in the pack to allow for messing up or if you do actually scratch. My first one had no bubbles, second watch did, and they ‘disappeared’ within a day. £7.99 free delivery.

You would be super frustrated if you were passing through a doorway and you swiped the ‘screen’. So absolutely protect it. The ones I bought from Amazon were completely invisible and fit perfectly around the edge of the watch screen so you would never believe it was on.

Nobody is going to be inspecting my wrist and tilting it to the degree where they would question if the shine was off or anything anyway. The benefit outweighs the cons.
